sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA Mar 10, 2008 Bottle->red wine glass(that’s all the place had apparently). Pours a spare head with fair lacing atop a murky, dark brown body. Heavy aroma of malt with some toasted carmel/molasses malt. Average aroma of hops a port, cast, and subsequently wood aromas. Average favor duration, lightly acidic, and moderately bitter flavor. Medium body, sticky, yet somehow slick texture, soft carbonation, with an astringent finish. Pretty good beer--definitely a winner for me, given the fact it’s an "American Strong Ale," which I traditionally am not crazy about. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 10, 2008 Bottle. Poured a deep reddish brown body with thin head. Aroma is chocolate, sweet malt. Flavor is sweet malt, light chocolate tones and a light bitterness. Strong alcohol taste. This one smelled like, tasted like a dopplebock. thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Mar 10, 2008 Pours deep amber into a snifter. Pancake head with good retention leaves spider lacing as is slowly recedes. Stale caramel aromas. Sweet and figgy. Slight sour caramel in the middle with a bittersweet finish. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Mar 7, 2008 very malty, little hop bitterness. good flavor, a little on the flat side... drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Mar 7, 2008 Rich. Dark. American Strong Ale all the way. It’s go that caramel and sweetness the strong ale requires. Another solid Lagunitas beer I can’t get at home. Come on! Send this to us! Ratings by the disgruntled drinker who has to travel to get what he wants.... ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Mar 6, 2008 Updated: May 6, 2009Had this last on tap at The Draught House in Austin. Oh so good. I like to be able to taste my beer, and this one does not disappoint. Well balanced, I think. But a bit sweet, sticky, and syrupy. In fact, when drinking from the bottle my lips often get stuck to the rim. Not a bad price for the alcohol content, too. It could easily pull off a 10% without tasting too much alcohol. Nice body, handsome head, sweet aromas. Lagunitas tends to make some pretty good beers, and you can’t go wrong with this one either. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 5, 2008 12 oz. bottle - ruby brown and head around the edges; aromas are all sweet malts; medium body and slightly creamy going down; flavors of dank fruits and has a dry finish; interesting to say the least clingman71 (239), Centerville, Ohio, USA Mar 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours a beautiful reddish brown. Aroma of sweet caramel malt and a little dark fruit. Flavor is deep malt, like a heavy caramel grain more so than a chocolate or black patent. It has some dark fruit flavor also, and although malty, there is a slight spice/dryness attempting to balance things. This is not one of my favorite styles, but this one was more enjoyable than I expected.
