Slipstream (734), USA Jun 20, 2009 Silly name and label. Aroma of molasses, hops, and yeast. Dark pour with no head. Very earthy flavor, like a hoppy brown ale. It tastes a bit like some of my less successful homebrews. There is nice warm tingle on the palate. Hairy eyeball is a little rude and unpleasant, like some other Lagunitas releases I have had. In my opinion, this is one of their misses. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 13, 2009 Maybe I shouldn’t have had this right after a Brown Shugga’ but I did. The flavor of this beer was nice and malty, but it didn’t have that mellow warming mouth feel you usually get from a strong ale. bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 12, 2009 This beer presents a sweetness that deadly. Silky smooth and very drinkable. Pours a deep reddish brown. head slips away quickly. Another winner from these guys GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Jun 12, 2009 Aside from their Frank Zappa dedicated beers, this might just be my favorite offering from Lagunitas. The beer pours out a dark amber/copper color, with a nice creamy off white, 1" thick head. Body is clear with light carbonation present. Lacing left behind was really nice to look at (the wife even noticed). Aroma has some nice sweetness to it, with caramel and molasses taking center stage. Some dark fruits and rum raisins also seemed to show up. Flavor has a nice malt profile with tons of raisins/dark fruits, dark brown sugar, light earthy hops and a big dose of toffee. While "The Hairy Eyeball" might be one of the worst named beers ever, it’s quite delicious. WakeandBake (422), Greenville, Michigan, USA Jun 8, 2009 Updated: Jun 19, 2009Bottle. A deep dark clear amber body with a thick offwhite head, light to meduim carbonation , lots of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is of sweet caramel malt , with a bit of spicy hops, and just a hint of alcohol. Flavor is rich like caramelized sugar, rasins and dry malt grains, with some zesty piny hop notes, honey, a little spice like maybe peppercorn or something like that but very faint, full body with a smooth texture, nice malty finish, the 9% ABV was well hidden. This was a really good drinker, I plan to buy more. Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Jun 6, 2009 Ruby color with a wine like scent. Aged fruit taste up front with a little bittering on the finish. I wonder if this is what the soup tasted like on Temple of Doom? shawnm213 (884), South Bend, Indiana, USA Jun 5, 2009 pours a copper brown with a beige head. malty sweet, chocolate, caramel, brown sugar. smooth creamy mouthfeel as well. not too bad. joeneugs (289), Livermore, California, USA Jun 2, 2009 Pours a reddish, almost pink color with a beige head. The aroma is fruity and yeasty, with caramel and a little alchohol. Taste is cherries, mollasses, brown sugar, and moderately bitter. Not bad, but pretty alcoholic, with a brandyish feel to it.
