Medium amber brown with nice creamy light tan head. Smell is slight malt and honey with some sweet fruity hops too. Metallic up front. Medium carbonation with a thin body. Smooth overall and pretty good. Slightly hoppy finish and bitter aftertaste. Palate becomes nearly oily as it warms - strange. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 30, 2008 Pours brown with a white head, has a sweet malt aroma. Has a sweet mildly burnt flavor with a noticeable but not overbearing alcohol presence. Not bad. illidurit (876), Santa Cruz, California, USA

An extremely deep reddish brown topped by a disappointingly small head for how vigorously I poured it, not even half a finger.
As a result of the inadequate head, the smell is lackluster and faint. I can only pick up a bit of brown sugar or caramel. No hops in the nose.
The taste saves this beer. Big brown sugar malt with a bit of a citrus hop undercurrent. Molasses and coffee notes. A pinch of spice from the alcohol comes through at the end. Reminiscent of a barleywine.
Full and smooth.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 25, 2008 Deep maroon brew with minimal head even on an overly aggressive pour, this beer is well crafted but not unique enough to warrant a better score. The overall impression of this one is sticky sweet; flavor profile includes brown sugar, toffee, and caramel...all of which try to mask the 9% abv. It comes across more on certain sips than others. This is a good beer but not one that I would seek out. GadgetGeek (29), Snellville, Georgia, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2008 Pours a clear brown to maroon color with a large creamy tan head that lasts a bit. Looks quite nice in the glass. Smell is bright and fruity and delicious sweet malt up front. Body is semi creamy with flavors of sticky malt, light alcohol and a slick mouthfeel and a complementing moderate hop bitterness. Kind of a dark toffee toasty hopped maltiness, and I thought it was pretty good, and very drinkable for 9%. Nice beer. badlizard (2339), Berkeley, California, USA
