Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jan 20, 2008 12oz bottle pours clear amber with tan head and some decent lacing. The aroma is typical Lagunitas, which I love, with rich roasty – crystal malts and mild pine hops along with some pale malts and dark fruity esters. The taste is pretty even keel with a mild introduction of roasty 90L – type crystal malts to start followed by a pulse of sweet malts and dark fruity esters. Some pine hops grow into the finish but never outshine the malts. Very tasty. hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Jan 20, 2008 Bottled. Hazy deep amber pour with no head and just some fine fizz and swirls. Boozy aroma of caramel, cinnamon spice and hops. Flavor is pretty one-dimensional; with light raisin and caramelized sugars. Finishes pretty bitter with lots of noticeable alcohol. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Jan 19, 2008 Hazy brown body with a small beige head. Boozy, bourbon nose with toffee, dark fruits and cola. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter with lots of alcohol, toffee, light roast, plums, vanilla and cookie dough. Medium/full body is rough with moderate carbonation and a warm finish. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 15, 2008 Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye. Pours a clear reddish brown head with a thin tan head. Interesting aroma of hops and fruits. Good flavor of hops, fruits, caramel and malt with a bitter finish. The body is medium with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation. jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 13, 2008 Updated: Feb 5, 2009Dark red-amber with big, foamy tan head / Light, caramel and raisin nose / Medium, sticky malty body with good finish / Flavors of toffee, spun sugar, coffee, raisins, and coca cola / More hops would add to the balance, but this is much like a fine doppelbock. sickassmick (81), Concord, California, USA Jan 12, 2008 a sweet, fresh tasting beer with nearly zero aftertaste. Pours really dark and really quite beautiful and clear. Not necessarily my style of beer. A little too roasty and not big on hops, but the body keeps the beer from feeling too heavy and it is very drinkable. I can feel this warming my stomach, even though I didn’t notice much alcohol on the mouth. You should probably be careful of this one... 9%.... ? not what I would have guessed. Make sure you know this before putting away too many! Lagunitas, still one of my favorite breweries. nice job guys. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 12, 2008 Pours a translucent brown with a thin tan head. Nice aroma, smells a little like fruit. Nice caramel flavor, not much hop characteristic here. Well balanced though and it goes down smooth. Doesn’t seem like a 9% beer. Decent beer...I like the bottle. Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 11, 2008 Hmmmm......this one threw me for a loop. Is this really Lagunitas we’re talking about here? The pour yields an attractive, dark, translucent crimson body. A minimal, off-white film crowns the body and leaves behind little to no lacing. The aroma shows sweet, dark fruits like cherries, figs, and plums over a caramel and brown sugar malt base. Very faint floral hops are present in the background, though they appear to be an afterthought. The flavor is again very sweet and malty, with dark caramel and fruits again dominating. The smooth, medium body is overly sticky and sweet. Decent brew, but lacking hop character and depth. Where is the well balanced Lagunitas hop bomb I was expecting? Not one of their best efforts.
