Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA May 18, 2007 An amber apperance. This one was rather sweet with some dark fruits and licorice present in the flavor. Just a tad bit of citrus can be detected. A somewhat syrupy mouthfeel on this one. Sweet and warming finish. Not a bad beer. scoobyluv (486), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA May 11, 2007 had this toward the end of the evening at KP’s. the ratings get a little less informative. it has a sweet smell and a sweet taste. that’s all i got. lol Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 10, 2007 Bottle drunk 4/29. Dark ruby color. Aromawas malty and roasted. The tastew was the same with sweet caramel taste. Just ok nothiung too special. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark May 10, 2007 Bottle [Big thanks to Jeppe for sharing] large creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Good lacing. Mahogany color. Rye bread, caramel, burned notes with some grapefruit, pine and elderflower. Full bodied with a light alcoholic texture. Flavor was moderated bitter with excellent balanced sweet malty notes. Light dry and bitter finish that lingers and turns into a slight liquorish feel. carl4beer (394), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA May 8, 2007 pours dark brown with off white head. mild aroma of malt and some yeast. taste is thick and bold, raisons, and a nice hoppy finish. Tons of bold flavor... good one! jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA May 2, 2007 Yuck, that’s mostly what I remember. Bought a single 12 oz. of this when I was out in Boulder. Tastes of maple, molasses, hops. But, it seemed a bit off, not very balanced, and too hot for me to enjoy for me. A quite unique beer, but not one I liked. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA May 1, 2007 Poured a dark mahogany with some lighter highlites and an off-white head. Rich aroma of wheat bread, red wine, biscuit dough, a bit of molasses. Taste is strong and sweet with powerful notes of brown sugar, molasses, and maple syrup, slowly giving way to some earthy and grassy hops and a prevailing dryness in the finish. A bit of a metallic flavor clings to the back of the palate. Strong, assertive, somewhat unrefined, perhaps even more so than other of the brewer’s offerings. Have no idea what’s up with the eyeball gimmick. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Apr 25, 2007 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear garnet color. Head was thick and light tan with good retention and lacing. Rich malty molasses aroma with a hint of soy sauce. Slick, oily mouth feel with a touch of sweetness. Roasty malt flavor up front gave way to brown sugar, resiny hop, and subdued bourbon notes. Finished with ample hop bitterness and a smouldering warmth in the stomach.
