brigg (213), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Apr 29, 2009 (bottle) Dark, reddish-brown body with minimal light brown head. Rich aroma of roasted malt, caramel, dark sweet fruit, port-like notes, and slight tartness. Flavor is very sweet malt, caramel, persistent but never dominating alcohol, and slight apple-like tartness. Body is slightly to the light side of medium, some soft carbonation, but also sticky, oily feel. Overall very enjoyable. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Apr 28, 2009 12 oz bottle from Bev4less. Pours an amber-brown color with a big khaki head that has fair retention and good lacing. The aroma is strong with sweet dark fruits, brown sugar and roasted grains. The flavor is of sweet dark fruits, mostly raisin and dates, anise, molasses and lots of brown sugar. There is also a spot of hot alcohol. The finish is short with lingering sweetness. The mouthfeel is kinda sticky and syrupy. Overall: A decent strong brown ale. homebrewer302 (4), Wilmington, USA does not count Apr 27, 2009 Bottle, Joe Canal’s in Princeton, NJ. Poured a dark amber that was fairly clear. Very little carbonation, but the lacing on the glass was fairly good. Aroma is malty with very faint hop character. A bit estery as well. Flavor has molasses dominating with brown sugar, vanilla and a little bit of oak. Very soft mouthfeel from very little carbonation. Dry finish with surprising hop bitterness. Reminds me of Brown Sugga, with less hop character and alcohol. Easy drinking brew. Bullit (1300), Glasgow, Scotland Apr 26, 2009 Bottle, local liquor store, Boston.
