Aroma is a fairly underwhelming watery maltiness with some roasty notes. The flavor is quite intriguing, starting off with sweet caramel malt and then developing into a more roasted flavor and ending with a bitter almost burnt taste. Amazingly thick mouthfeel. jcweaver (65), VA Beach, Virginia, USA

Appearance is hazy brown with a low cream colored head. Flavor is very rich with lots of roast, great caramel and clean finish. Mouthfeel is a little syrupy, medium full bodied, with a low carb texture. Overall, big and complex, a very cool brew for malt lovers. larsniclas (3382), Gothenburg, Sweden

Brown with a small, tan head.
Malty aroma with sweet fruits.
Very malty flavour; raisins and prunes.
Spicy and bock-like. FROTHINGSLOSH (1984), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA

The aroma was marvelously strong sweet ripe fruits and chocolate. The flavor was strong, hoppy and full of ripe fruits - cherry, raspberry & pear - with notes of brown sugar, cocoa powder and caramel. The mouthfeel was fairly thick. Marvelous. savnac (412), Palmer, Alaska, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 1, 2009 Bottle. Sweet toasty malt aroma with a great hop smell too. Dark amber with a small tan creamy head. Mostly sweet caramel flavor with bitter hop notes and finishes with a slightly sour twang. The beer is medium bodied, very creamy thick mouth feel with a nice long finish. This is an interesting beer, can’t say I’ve had anything quite like it. The mouth feel is great and it has a great balance of sweet bitter and sour. MarkBarnes (266), Waterville, New York, USA

Sweet & somewhat syrupy. Bitter finish. A bit barleywine-ish. I prefer Lagunitas’ superb "Lucky 13" ASA to this. Adam77 (407), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA
