Interesting beer. A delicious-looking amber red beer with a small tan head. Aroma is a fairly underwhelming watery maltiness with some roasty notes. The flavor is quite intriguing, starting off with sweet caramel malt and then developing into a more roasted flavor and ending with a bitter almost burnt taste. Amazingly thick mouthfeel.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle a nice amber color with a slight head. Not my favorite from Lagunitas but not disappointing.

4/4/09 from the bottle. Aroma is all malt with lots of molasses and some alcoholic fruit. Appearance is hazy brown with a low cream colored head. Flavor is very rich with lots of roast, great caramel and clean finish. Mouthfeel is a little syrupy, medium full bodied, with a low carb texture. Overall, big and complex, a very cool brew for malt lovers.

Bottled Brown with a small, tan head. Malty aroma with sweet fruits. Very malty flavour; raisins and prunes. Spicy and bock-like.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright ruby-garnet color with a huge brown head. The aroma was marvelously strong sweet ripe fruits and chocolate. The flavor was strong, hoppy and full of ripe fruits - cherry, raspberry & pear - with notes of brown sugar, cocoa powder and caramel. The mouthfeel was fairly thick. Marvelous.

Bottle. Sweet toasty malt aroma with a great hop smell too. Dark amber with a small tan creamy head. Mostly sweet caramel flavor with bitter hop notes and finishes with a slightly sour twang. The beer is medium bodied, very creamy thick mouth feel with a nice long finish. This is an interesting beer, can’t say I’ve had anything quite like it. The mouth feel is great and it has a great balance of sweet bitter and sour.

March 31, 2009; 12 oz. bottle. Dark fruit, raisins, heavy malt, alcohol. Sweet & somewhat syrupy. Bitter finish. A bit barleywine-ish. I prefer Lagunitas’ superb "Lucky 13" ASA to this.

Might be their worst offering. Some caramel and hop balance but mostly booze. Little bit fruit in the finish. One and done.
