Aroma is rather light but has a touch of malts and caramel. Flavor is very sweet at the beginning with a lot of caramel malts, roasted and smokey malts, and a very warm alcohol finish. Lots of alcohol present at the finish with a bitter and sweet aftertaste. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 17, 2004 Deep amber out of the bottle with a frothy tan head. Lots of candi sugar sweetness in the nose. Plum, raisen and apricot fruitiness and caramel sweetness. The alcohol blooms as it warms. Seems a little thin for a strong ale. Too easy to drink for >8%. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 12, 2005 bottle. copper-red body with a fluffy white head. soapy aroma and a hop profile that is rather subdued. Hoppy flavour with a significant malt component and some fruitiness. Thick yeasty palate. I had no idea this had such a high alcohol content. Perhaps a little bit boring. It’s decent, but not outstanding. SSSteve (2107), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 21, 2008 Cask! from Redlight Redlight. Moderately fruity with dark persimmon and raisins. A touch of freshly turned soil and a light peppery hop. Also a caramelized candy element. Peppery herbal hops are more apparent in the flavor. Low carbonation (its a cask afterall) with a nice rounded and smooth palate. Deep ruby color, smallish head with light lacing. There’s a bit of alcoholic harshness in the finish. Later the hops come through with a bit of cheesy footiness. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Pours dark brown / crimson with a rocky tan head. The aroma has dark malt that is very smooth and tropical hops that are sweet and clean. Medium thick body that is very smooth and sticky with some nice carbonation on the finish. The flavor starts out with dark malt and sweetness that tastes natural as if it was apples or pears. The flavors come across bold, full, rich and clean. The finish has some spicy, woody and earthy hops along with a spice kick. The big flavors here do a great job of masking the 9% contain in the bottle. Big thumbs up for this winner from Lagunitas.
