| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 12, 2007 Pours a brownish amber color with a tan head. Aroma is of caramel, slight roastiness, molasses, citrus hops, and a little alcohol. Flavor starts off with dark fruits and caramel that give way to the roasted malts and molasses. Finishes with a little bitterness and some alcohol warming. A pretty decent brew. dberger624 (1028), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 19, 2008 12 oz bottle: Ruby brown pour with a thick, frothy head that laces well. This is all about the malt - caramalized sugars dominate the nose, with lighter notes of cherry juice, bourbony plums and vanilla beans adding complexity. The body is thick and chewy. A nice dose of bittering hops balance things in the body. After the initial wall of green pine passes, a rush of cane sugar hits the tongue. Wow - even with the intense bitterness, the sugary malts win over the tongue in this one. It almost becomes hard to drink as the sugary notes of toffee, caramel and raisins become super rich and cloying. Seems like a little finesse would help to define the malts better and create a better drinkability. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2006 Pours clear mahogany with a small tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is malts, malts, and some fruits. Taste is more of the same, but with a handful of hops thrown in. The alcohol is more prevalent when the beer warms. A strong ale that could pass as a lighter barleywine. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
