3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at Kumas Corner. Pours a translucent dark mahogony with a thin head. No aroma to speak of except for a hint of dried fruits. First impressions of taste reminded me of cherry cough syrup. Subtle hop notes finish this strange beer off.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The aroma is sweet and malty with roasted caramel, bread crust, and raisin notes. It?s a somewhat murky mahogany color with a dense, white soap head that has moderate to light retention and lace. It?s a medium high wine like bittersweet. The texture is chewy and fuzzy with a full body with flavors of toast and grape jelly with a light metallic note, a herb quality, and a bit of alcohol. The finish is herby with a wine and chocolate note and a chalky quality as well as an alcohol warmth and bread crust. It has a moderate length that leads to an aftertaste that?s cloying and malty with metallic notes and pine.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours very dark brown, small white head. Malty aroma with molasses, some plums. Taste is somewhat bitter, some roasted malts in there. Soft mouthfeel, not very heavy carbonation. Not impressed by this one but it’s not bad either.

Tap...aroma of candy and alcohol with a similar taste. Way too sweet and unbalanced for my taste. Had a hard time finishing this stuff.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Updated 4/20/10- Grabbed a single of this again to sample, as the first time was a couple years ago while camping so memory was a little foggy. Not as dark as originally thought, but still sort of strong for a brown ale. Not as heavy as originally thought, but still fills you up. Good balance between the malts and hops here, but leaning on the malty side. I will definitly try this again I’m sure, but prefer their IPA and red ales.............................................. is a dark, heavy, strong beer. The color is a dark brown, slight amber, with a decent amount of carbonation which gives it a strong head. I found the balance between malts and hops to be a bit on the bitter side. I appreciated the flavors and wanted to try something a bit different, but not sure if it worked enough for me to retry. A good beer to split with a buddy to sample. An entire 12oz. was just a bit too heavy/bitter for me though. I needed to chase it down with something lighter.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours clear amber-brown with three fingers of light tan head, excellent retention and lacing. (5/5) Nose is toffee malt, brown sugar, dark slightly boozy stone fruit, mild pine resin. (7/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitter, mild peppery spice. (7/10) Medium slightly creamy body, moderate carbonation, lingering bitter and mild spicy finish. (4/5)
Surprisingly smooth and light for a beefy ABV. I keep thinking there’s rye in there because of the little spice kick, but it doesn’t appear that there is. An interesting deep and rich malty brew. I’m not generally a fan of malty, but this works pretty well. Not sure I’d shave my eyeballs for it, but... (15/20)
