sinkr (142), Lusby, Maryland, USA Mar 10, 2008 Bottle->red wine glass(that’s all the place had apparently). Pours a spare head with fair lacing atop a murky, dark brown body. Heavy aroma of malt with some toasted carmel/molasses malt. Average aroma of hops a port, cast, and subsequently wood aromas. Average favor duration, lightly acidic, and moderately bitter flavor. Medium body, sticky, yet somehow slick texture, soft carbonation, with an astringent finish. Pretty good beer--definitely a winner for me, given the fact it’s an "American Strong Ale," which I traditionally am not crazy about.
mcbackus (665), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Oct 9, 2008 bottle: pours a dark cola brown with a decent tan head. aroma is very hoppy with a ok malt behind it, slight dark fruit but alot of hops. flavour the flavour has a great start with earthy hops and some caramel malts finsihes pretty smooth and with more hops but with a touch of bitterness. probstk (695), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Oct 8, 2008 12 fl. oz. bottle from BOTW (Rochester), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Flav.: Much like the nose – lots of dark malty flavours, some fruitiness, a bit of stinging alcohol, sweet with fair bitterness.
Don’t like getting the hairy eyeball, but it’s OK to drink it. stchloe (197), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 26, 2008 Kicks you in the behind with the ABV, be careful. Smooth alcoholic ester taste of a winter, much better than other contemporaries. Hophead22 (265), Redlands, California, USA Sep 21, 2008 Tap at Toronado SF, 2006 vintage.
