4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle- poured out a deep mahogany red/brown with a small and short-lived tan head. Aroma was sweet caramel and dates and the taste followed through, with a little brown sugar in the finish. Palate was excellent, smooth and mouth filling. Very good, made my top 20.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a 22. Aroma is boozy (whiskey) and brown sugar. Flavor is bitter and astringent with a definite bite to it. There is some subtle sweetness in the flavor, almost like a bit of a butterscotch.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle into snifter. Amber to brown color with moderate head that dissipated quickly. Pleasant aroma with more hops than I expected. Flavor was solid. Loads of raisin and malt. There were some hops there to balance but not nearly enough. You could find then if you looked for then but the sweetness was overwhelming. By the time I finished u was struggling a bit. Still a good brew and the first sips were excellent, just don't drink it by yourself because it tires very quick

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From bomber to tulip. Smell of burnt caramel, banana and alcohol. Sweet malt as well. Beautiful mahogany with full brown head that remains as wispy clouds across the top. Taste is chewy malt, cherry, moderate alcohol burn and sweetness lingering on the lips. Slight cola and freshly served mini-loaf of bread.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/7/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toast, brown bread, nuttiness, raisin, plum, fig, light chocolate, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, dark fruit, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toast, brown bread, nuttiness, raisin, plum, fig, light chocolate, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy hop/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toast, brown bread, nuttiness, raisin, plum, fig, light chocolate, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, dark fruits, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome American strong ale style! All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malts, dark fruits, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Yet another excellent offering from Lagunitas. I tried this one at the taproom in Chicago. The pour was reddish-brown with a big, fluffy and lacing head. The nose was malty with a touch of alcohol. The body was full, but drinkable and delicious. The well-balanced flavors had some caramel malt, dry and spicy hops, wood, hop resin and a touch of rye.
