"Here’s Lookin’ Atcha’!"

Laying there, staring up at the ceiling, head pounding, last night was a dim recollection. How did he get home? Was he alone? Looking to the left and right, the answer was yes, maybe. His head was full of ’rag water, bitters, and the blue ruin’.His teeth felt like he’d been chewing aluminum and his breath smelled like a burning tractor tire. There was a wrenching knot somewhere between his liver and East St. Louis and he couldn’t be sure whether or not he’d wet himself. A yellow sine wave rang in his ears so loud nit made his teeth itch and he was sure that if he touched his skin anywhere it would induce a rhythmic retching jag. Even in the face of all that, he found himself smiling at the realization that today represented the fresh breast of a new year- an undiscovered country- and also there was still one warm, half-full, flat redolent Hairy Eyeball on the nightstand. Yes-there is a God.

12 ounce bottle- poured out a deep mahogany red/brown with a small and short-lived tan head. Aroma was sweet caramel and dates and the taste followed through, with a little brown sugar in the finish. Palate was excellent, smooth and mouth filling. Very good, made my top 20.

Poured from a bomber into a Lagunitas pint glass a dark reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma is fruity booze like a fig newton with a chaser. Flavor is incredible! A rich brown sugared malted raisin. The booze edge is subtle yet balanced. An exceptional American strong ale!

I loved this beer. It had great dark fruit and molasses in the aroma. Appearance was a dark clear rusty amber color with a huge three finger tan head. The head hung around quite a while. Taste ... well I loved it. Sweet but not too sweet. Dark fruits, molasses and some light hops. Palate is smooth, creamy, with a good balance of carbonation. Excellent brew, reminds me of an aged Rubin and the Jets. Highly recommended. Cheers!

Brown pour from a bomber with about two fingers of a light tan head. Fig, toffee, and a hint of alcohol on the nose. Taste is fig up front followed by molasses and brown sugar. Overall a decent beer.

Malty dark fig nose, touch of toffee. Hop bitter on the back of the tongue, good malt middle, and finishes bitter. Bit of molasses in the middle.

Transfer from BA review on 11-24-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a dark amber color with a two finger white head. The head has a lighter level of retention, fading to give a light level of lacing. Smell – The smell is a mix of dark fruits (fig and raisin), a bready smell, as well as some hop. While the hops were largely citrus in nature, there were other smells of a floral and pine hop as well. Taste – A sweeter dark fruit and malt taste greet the tongue. A citrus hop which is on the sweeter side is upfront, but bitters more as the taste advances transitioning more toward a grapefruit flavor toward the end of the taste. With the change in the citrus hop there also comes the presence of a light pine and herbal hop flavor. In the end the mix of the hops , dark fruits, and the nice malt flavors leave a smoother and pleasant taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the creamier and smoother side with a carbonation level that was just below average. The creamy body was quite nice for the sweet dark fruit and lighter hops as it allowed all the flavors to really be detected by the tongue. Overall –A nice easy drinking brew at 9% abv. It was creamy and smooth with all the flavors working in concert with one another to create a very nice flavor profile.

Not a bad beer, but it’s far too sweet for me. It pours copper brown with an average head that leaves lots of clingy, creamy lace. The aroma is molasses, brown sugar, ginger. Then the flavor is like drinking alcohol-fortified pecan pie. Every note I noticed was something sweet... graham crackers, candied nuts, honey. It’s nutty and rich, and the mouthfeel is syrupy like a barley wine. This is nowhere near as good as my favorite American strong ales, such as Arrogant Bastard and Lagunita’s own Lucky 13.

Bottle: Syrupy, thick looking copper pour, nearly opaque. Not much head at all. A light khaki film is there for a second, but dissipates immediately. Aroma of sweet plums, prunes, light anise, apple skins, some mild sticky caramel, & some finishing red grape. Smells like a fruit barley wine. Taste is the same, with the inclusion of lightly herbal & mostly earthy hops. A big caramel & toffee malt backbone with sweet dark fruit, prunes, dates, a bit of clump yeast, & more red grape. Sticky, sweet finish. This one gets cloying pretty quickly, even with the moderate hoppage up front. Kind of a weird hybrid of an overly hopped, yet old barley wine. Not my wheelhouse, but not undrinkable by any means.

Draft - Positive Pie (Hardwick) - Pours a dark copper color with a small off-white head that left some lacing on the glass. Aroma Aroma is brown sugar, caramel and dark fruit... little hops. Flavor is similar... finish is slightly sweet and lingering...

22 ounce bottle pour into a snifter. Pours a clear copper with a white head of foam. The aroma reminds me a lot of an English barley wine with its notes of raisins, figs, and toffee. The taste is softly sweet with notes of prune and raisin. Mouthfeel is a little sticky. Low to moderate carbonation. Pretty damn good and much better than the ratings indicate.

Pours a dark copper brown in the glass. Slightly sweet smoky molasses aroma. Flavor is mostly a spicy sweet clove and cinnamon followed by peppery aftertaste. Overall, a solid brew. Thanks to BarZigKin for his generosity!
