"Here’s Lookin’ Atcha’!"

Laying there, staring up at the ceiling, head pounding, last night was a dim recollection. How did he get home? Was he alone? Looking to the left and right, the answer was yes, maybe. His head was full of ’rag water, bitters, and the blue ruin’.His teeth felt like he’d been chewing aluminum and his breath smelled like a burning tractor tire. There was a wrenching knot somewhere between his liver and East St. Louis and he couldn’t be sure whether or not he’d wet himself. A yellow sine wave rang in his ears so loud nit made his teeth itch and he was sure that if he touched his skin anywhere it would induce a rhythmic retching jag. Even in the face of all that, he found himself smiling at the realization that today represented the fresh breast of a new year- an undiscovered country- and also there was still one warm, half-full, flat redolent Hairy Eyeball on the nightstand. Yes-there is a God.

12 ounce bottle- poured out a deep mahogany red/brown with a small and short-lived tan head. Aroma was sweet caramel and dates and the taste followed through, with a little brown sugar in the finish. Palate was excellent, smooth and mouth filling. Very good, made my top 20.

22 oz bottle. Clear mahogany body with a decent head. A bit too sweet upfront, but I often think this about barleywines. Moderate complexity with partially hidden ABV.

Looks like prune juice... But don't let that bother you. It's supremely smooth & creamy. Flavours of chocolate, vanilla, toffee and alcohol. It's sweet smooth and very satisfying.

(tap) bright, reddish amber colour with a small, tan head; faint fruit aroma; thick palate; rich, balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish

Drank from bottle. Fruity aromas, some say pear, I say ok. Taste is fruity, sweet, lightly malty, good. Enjoyed, but a bit too sweet and malty for my preferences.

Pours a dark red/brown with a moderate tan head. Smells of fruit - cherry, pear. Taste is sweet and moderately bitter - pear and other fruit, followed by bitter dark malt and some grassy hops.

I had many years ago andjust getting to rating now. I like the ale but it wasn’t the greatest. Was missing something od a complexity. Too base but did have a smooth finish. Tap

bottle. Decent American Strong. A little heavy on the alcohol notes, but tasty.

Couleur du caramel avec une petite mousse blanche. L’arôme de l’alcool, malt caramel et un peu de fruits. En bouche c’est pareille. Très fort et plein du corps avec une présence clair d’alcool.

2009 vintage keg. Certainly tastes old. Elements are soldered together here more than they perhaps would be. Pours dark brown with decent head. Tastes rather like a doppelbock. Bittersweet finish. Interesting beer, even if it’s not something I would drink a lot. Tap at Churchkey.

Draft at Frisco Taphouse in Columbia, MD served in a goblet glass. Clear darker brown color with off-white head. Aroma notes of heavy sweet caramel malt, some roast, molasses, light spices and nice hop fruitiness. Taste adds notes of toffee, dough, light cocoa and citrus fruity hop bitterness. Medium-heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy, dry with sweet citrus bitter finish. Heavy but not too heavy, high ABV barely detected. Very nice strong ale.
