4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours deep ruby with a thick, frothy tan head. Strong aroma of fresh cut grass, grapefruit, and alcohol. Big creamy malt right up front, with an herbal bitterness hitting mid-palate. Bitterness lingers through the finish, with notes of vanilla, lemon zest, and earthy/piny/spicy hops. Palate is full, creamy, a bit sticky, and spicy with lingering bitter grapefruit, just a hint of lemon zest, and some mild continuing sweetness. Very unique ale, almost feels like some sort of crossover. Part Barley Wine, part IPA, and part ESB. Either way, enjoyable, and very easy drinking.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
’07 bottle. clear, red/purple with minimal head though pretty carbonated. almost looks like a well-mixed shirley temple. aroma out of bottle is pure hops, but out of glass has more of a candyish maltiness. like a cherry syrup almost. flavor is decimatingly bitter. a tiny bit medicinal, still syrupy. i don’t know man, there’s some off tastes here. kinda weird how turned off to hops i’ve become. just a tad overcarbonated. i didn’t want to give over a 3.5, but i’ll let the 3.6 stay since it has no alcohol taste. even if this version is a full .7% less than last year’s.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle - Medium/dark copper color with medium sized creamy off white head. Aroma has fair amount of light caramel, faint citrusy hops w/ notes of lemon, touch of apricot. Flavor is malty, faint caramel, touch of vanilla, bit of lemon and herbal hops. Finish is mildly bitter. Overall a nice american strong ale.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2008 Wow - they were not kidding about this being a drink inspired by their bitter feelings about the local federales. This thing is a molassas sweet, bitter, malty hoppity-hop-hop behemoth ale. The smooth caramel malt segues into a huge, sharp biitter hop finish with a heapin’ helpin’ of pungent grapefruit that does a dance on the face of your tongue.
Re-rate: May 3rd, 2008 - Rating a 1-yr. old bomber I have let marinating in my fridge - citrus stands out a bit more, much smoother and even seems a little more full-bodied than I remember - I agree with my previous rating of 4.2, but am going to bump it up to 4.3 on the merit of how well it aged at 45F.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 oz. brown bomber bottle. A steal at $3.99 each. Poured out a wildflower honey color, with a sticky tan colored head. Aromas are of honey, caramel, toffee, burnt raw sugars. 9.28% ABV on my bottle. Flavor profile is off the hook. Strong malt backbone with grapefruit hops bite. Bites your ass like a rattlesnake. Big alcohol flavors, along with subtle vanilla beans in the background. Thick mouthfeel, chewy body. Like a big ass Barleywine.
Kicks royal ass. Keep up the good work guys! Thanks much for this ale.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Honey amber pour with a decent head. Not bad. Aroma was hoppier than I expected - somewhere between an IPA and pilsner (I had this a few days ago, bear with me). I liked the flavor - refreshing, citrus, good finish, nice malt backbone. Alcohol is well hidden, I never would’ve put it at nearly 10%. Overall, pretty alright, I’d have it again.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear amber color with a large ivory head. The nose is on the weak side - with gentle notes of pine, citrus, and hops. Mild malt flavors are dominated by strong citrus, pine, and hop flavors, with a good hop kick in the finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bomber, no freshness date noted.
Clear copper with a thick tan head and sticky lace.
Aroma is caramel and grapefruit and pine.
Flavor starts out sweet with sticky caramel flavors, then ruby red grapefruit with sugar, and a light dusting of piney resin.
Finish does get a bit sticky towards the end of the glass, but it has enough hops to keep it from going over the edge.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Reports of this being similar to a Arrogant Bastard put it firmly on my must get radar screen. During my last visit to Green’s, I was able to pick up a bomber to fulfill my suppressed cravings for the unavailable Stone offering. When poured into a pint glass, the clear body looked a lovely shade of copper, and the head was beige and craggy. The aroma was fantastically hoppy, and a little alcoholic as well. The taste was almost as citric hoppy as a DIPA (which some might still consider this to be), but the malt backbone was toastier (which makes me think this is more of an American Strong Ale exemplar). The alcohol was proudly showcased in an “if you got it, flaunt it” manner. Apricots, peaches, and mangoes were recalled as the residual sugars made themselves evident. A big beer in every regard, so a definite sipper. Sticky clingy body, and a bitter aftertaste finished this neat limited release package. More similar to Bigfoot than Arrogant Bastard if you were to ask me, and that is just a fine place to be.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
bottle. pour is a reddish orange brown with a rootbeer float like head. booze is there in the nose, frutiy.the bitter flvor at first sip continue throughout this eventually finishing to a point that it is a burning flavor and sensation.the great thing about lagunitas is that even if i buy a beer like this that i don’t care for it is not breaking the bank. the best per dollar brewery out there, now i’m off to have a sirius to get the resin burnt taste out of my mouth.
