Thick partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is citrusy and spicy hops. Medium body with flavors of peppery hops, citrus and malt. Notes of pine as well. The finish is hoppy with a lingering zesty citrus aftertaste. Pretty good overall. FunkyBrewster (549), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Aroma is very sweet, surprisingly so with a decent hop resin and a nice big fruitiness. Flavor starts with a small fruity hop presence. I then get a bit of a strange off flavor. I’ve had this beer twice and I hesitate to include off flavors that were only present in one of the beers. Lots of unripe fruit make this one a bit strange. I almost wonder if this one is not in its prime age. Still a lot of hop but not a huge bitterness. I’m still a bit torn, but I am going to rate it from the original which had a nice roundness in complexity without the off flavor. wxman (594), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA

Coats the glass and doesn’t fade. Aroma is hoppy grapefruit. Thick rich toasted malt sweetness, bread dough, citrus and dominant hoppiness. Really good stuff! mar (1985), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 22, 2009 Deep thick copper coloured body with ruby highlights, a bit of brown and a light thininsh tan head. Aroma of super fresh hops, pine cones, alcohol, apricots and a bit of clean malt. Full-bodied; Strong assertive hops up front with a pine and floral essence and a kick of alcohol, tucked in with a bit of nuts and a very light spice. Aftertaste clean, but showing a lot of alcohol warmth and definitely some hop bitterness - nice! Overall, a good beer - definitely more of an imperial IPA, but a little less astringent and hoppy than that style. That said, I still think this beer is a bit too strong and showing a bit too much alcohol. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased at Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, DC on 07-March-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 21-April-2009. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Gotta love the deep ruby color. Thick mouthfeel finishes fairly smooth, with the alcohol coming in at the end. A bit too much sweetness for my taste, but the flavor evens out overall. angrypirate06 (803), Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Redish clear gold pour with a foamy head. Aroma of citrus hops. Flavor was earth, dirt and hops. The alcohol was bit too evident.
