Pours a semi-hazy copperish amber brew with an average off-white head. Slowly dissolves to a fine film. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus peel, and a touch of papaya. Taste is sweet, smooth with an immediate distinct bitter taste. Finish is a lingering bitter with a warm alcohol character. fiulijn (7520), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy

Very good malt, both the aroma and flavor; strong mouthfeel, just showing some alcohol, extreme but well balanced. Good hopping. Very good. taffurs888 (121), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 3, 2007 Sampled in a 22 oz bottle. Poured dark brown with a thin head. Had a very bitter flavor with mild hops and thick malt base. Aroma was relatively sweet and palate was pretty smooth for being so bitter. TrevorFloyd (309), Connecticut, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 2, 2007 Lagunitas seems to be the king of making good but not quite exceptional beers, particularly those with a high dose of both hops and malt. Another solidly enjoyable ASA, a bit darker with more sweet malt than their Lucky 13 but still hopped up and full bodied. Considering its large ABV, solid flavor, and extremely reasonable price (4$ for a bomber), it’s well worth a purchase. GeneralGao (3081), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 2, 2007 22 oz bottle. Poured a clear dark orange color. Head was thick, off white, and left some decent lace behind. Aroma was of light malty molasses, minimal grapefruity hops, dried cherry, raisin, and soy. I also detected occasional notes of hot dog and yellow mustard. I didn’t drink this one anywhere near a hot dog stand, so it wasn’t a matter of smelling someone else’s lunch. Medium bodied and slightly sweet. The sweetness gave way to assertive hop bitterness that really lays into the tongue at the end and lingers. Tasted of malty caramel, whisky, and toffee. I also wonder if there was a bit of peated malt used to make this one. Interesting beer, but didn’t go down as one of my favorites. TheKegergator (241), California, USA
