We brewed this especially bitter ale in dedication to all the world’s would-be astronauts, in remembrance of the 2005 St. Patrick’s Day Massacre on the Brewery Party Grounds and also in joyous celebration of our 20-day suspension that following January. Do the crime. Do the time. Get the bragging rights. Cheers!

Pours ruby with beige head - good retention. Nose has mild citrus peel, caramel, some syrupy sweet notes in the background. Flavor is dominated by piney hops and prickly alcohol bite. Begins a little bready-malty and then quickly becomes a wash of hop resins. Finish is interestingly balanced between hop bitterness and toasted malt flavors. A good nightcap with strong flavors, but too incoherent to be world-class.

12 bottle served in a tulip. The beer pours a clear ruby brown with a thick off white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is very strong. I can smell it from a few feet away. Bright citrus hops, grapefruit, oranges, caramel, toffee, and pine resin. Really complex and nice. On to taste. With the first sip I get a ton of pine, and citrus, especially grapefruit and tangerine. As the flavors develop I get a lot of caramel and toffee, as well as some bready malts. The beer is pretty sticky overall, and fairly quenching for such a big beer. The alcohol is slightly detectable, but still well hidden for 9.3%. This is a really really good beer.

Tap at mellow new Albany. Nose is hop and clean. Pour Amber. Sweet start with hop bitterness shining thru. Good and even great but not perfect.

Pours a clear copper with a thin white head and a lot of lace. Aroma is sweet tropical fruit, floral, and sweet caramel malts. Flavour is tropical fruits, mild alcohol, high bitterness, pine, caramel and a moderately dry finish. Pretty balanced and enjoyable though I almost get a slight bit of a medicinal touch mixed in the complexity, I think that’s likely just from the tons of hops here.

Very interesting beer. The shut down is a great way to start the night, Smelled malty and has a large malty taste.

12 oz bottle. Pours amber with tall, long lasting, fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of citrusy hops, tropical fruit and caramel malt. Body is medium and tangy. Citrusy hops, caramel malt, brown sugar, ripe fruit, some vegetables and alcohol fill the mouth. Finish is long, semi-dry. This brew has some unusual taste, I don’t think I will drink it often.

Pours clear red-tinged pale amber with a fat finger of rocky white head, great retention and heavy lacing. (5/5) Nose is brown sugar, raisins, dank piney resin, citrus, mild boozy fruit. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderately strong bitter. (8/10) Medium body, lively to moderate carbonation, lingering bitter finish. (4/5) Wow - that’s a whole lotta hops for a non-IPA. But, it’s almost all on the nose and relatively little on the tongue (which is why I’m thinking it’s a lot of dry hopping, as opposed to in the boil). Interesting. (And the name is pretty much what you think. Let’s just say, the residents of Sonoma County are/were somewhat more accepting of certain other intoxicants than the state Alcohol Beverage Control, and that Lagunitas’ tastings reflected that sense of accommodation.) Aesthetically, you’d be hard-pressed to find a prettier beer - seriously, I can’t think of one. (17/20)

Deep clear copper color with white head. Minor lacing. Aroma is hoppy with some malt. Flavor is balanced and very enjoyable. The hops really bring this beer to life. I would drink this again.

Faint aromas of grassy hops and some baking spice. Beautiful copper color with good clarity. Taste is malt forward with brown sugar, sweet gingerbread and some buttering hops on the finish. Good stuff.
