COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed this especially bitter ale in dedication to all the world’s would-be astronauts, in remembrance of the 2005 St. Patrick’s Day Massacre on the Brewery Party Grounds and also in joyous celebration of our 20-day suspension that following January. Do the crime. Do the time. Get the bragging rights. Cheers!

On tap at TK. Hazy dark brown pour with a tan head. Dark roasted malt, spices and caramel. Nice boozy element in the finish.

Bottle - Pours a clear, deep amber with a creamy head and lacing. Sweet bread and some citrus aromas. Also some alcohol in the nose. Whoa, a lot going on here: heavy malts, citrus and a warming finish that could be better. More of a winter beer. Very good.

So many breweries have great stories, but the outlaw escapade that inspired Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale is one for the legends. Apparently, when life gives Lagunitas lemons (or, you know, an undercover investigation shut-down) they made lemona- Er, I mean, really great beer. Shut-Down Ale pours lovely amber with eggshell-colored suds and some of the best lacing I’ve ever seen. Aroma is weirdly wonderful. Savory, herbacous hops, soapiness, toffee, molasses, and booze. Flavor showcases syrupy sweetness and resinous bitterness. You really do get the fullness of both extremes, too, which can take getting used to. Fortunately, the booze is happy to help you get used to it with its warmth and candy-like taste. Basically, drinking this ale is such a hedonistic delight (all the more perfect with 66.6 IBU’s) that you’ll feel like you’re screwing with your clothes on. This different from being screwed with your clothes on, which is undoubtedly what an undercover shut-down must feel like.

Tap @ Frisco’s Columbia. Clear deep golden pour, creamy white head. Aroma of ripe fruits, some spices, slightly alcoholic, citrus fruits and some resin. Flavor is quite bitter, huge malty body and very smooth. Quite intense, but still a bit boring.

Bottle. Dark copper amber brown, tall sticky tan head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, little bit of orange. Syrupy body and taste, bit of alcohol presence. Really nice.

I poured it from the bottle into a chalice. It pours a somewhat cloudy copper color with a nice head and lacing. The aroma is hops and spice. The taste is hops, bitterness, spice, and booze. The mouth feel is fairly carbonated. This had a lot of flavor. As it warmed, the alcohol became more pronounced.

On draft at Big Stick, Navy Yard, DC. In a snifter, appearance is a dark amber in color with one finger of off white foam. Aroma is hoppy and woody with some fruit notes. Taste is earthy with that grapefruit citrus pop. Palate is heavy and dense. Overall, quite the powerhouse, but that is why you go for the 9.7% ABV sometimes!

Bottle pour. Golden amber and thin white head. Floral and pine nose. Uncompromising flavors of malt, caramel, and grapefruit. Bitter and oily finish. One I keep an eye open for...watch out for the high ABV sneaking up on you though!

Bottle pour dark gold copper with moderate white head. Nose caramel, toffee, biscuit, and dank hop. Taste dank and pine hop up front followed by the flavors of the nose. Mid palate moderate bitter. Sweet malt late. Lingering bitter finish.
