We brewed this especially bitter ale in dedication to all the world’s would-be astronauts, in remembrance of the 2005 St. Patrick’s Day Massacre on the Brewery Party Grounds and also in joyous celebration of our 20-day suspension that following January. Do the crime. Do the time. Get the bragging rights. Cheers!

Deep malty flavor with dark fruit (raisin, fig) and a light hoppiness that comes through at the end. Strong and full.

Aroma of sweet hoppy malt. Taste is on the sweet side, almost a candy sugar ness to it. Has a barley wine feel to it. Some bitter hops help balance but still sweet with a sweet finish. Alcohol is masked but is still noticeably strong. Almost has a bit of a whisky aroma and flavor as well. Adds nicely to it. Very complex and nice flavors. Just not something I could drink too much of. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured into a tulip glass. Thin white head and a caramel-brown color. Very clear. A good mix of piney/resiny and citrus hops on the nose, as well as some molasses.Flavors of citrus, butterscotch, sea salt and brown sugar. Not my favorite style, but this is a pretty interesting take. Different from the sugary-sweet or hop-bomb examples I’ve tried before.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2014 Dark amber with white head. Aroma starts with roasted caramel malt with some fruity pineapple aromas brown sugar and clove yeast. Sweet caramel malty start with some roasted notes, fruity flavors of cherries. Finishes out with some piney hops but not overly bitter. Not at all what I expected when it purchases but I ended up liking more than I anticipated.

Bottle into snifter glass, clear deep coppery-amber color with creamy tan head. Aroma of toast, caramel, slight nuttiness and grapefruity citrus hops. Taste adds notes of honey, brown sugar (like a graham cracker) balanced with bitter orangy citrus hops. Heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy, slick with piney hop bitterness on finish. Not the usual over-hopped Cali ASA with nice honey notes. Very good.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2014 I’m not a huge fan of brown ales normally but this one is really good, well done Lagunitas! Brown pour, spicy and bitter, malty caramel, sweet.
