3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a brown color with some amber-orange hues. Forms a 1" frothy off-white head with decent retention of some wispy foam throughout. Minimal spotty lacing. Nicely balanced aroma profile with competing notes of dark caramel, chocolate malt balls, raisins, spices and a touch of citrus-like hops in the background. Medium body on the palate with a nice slick, smooth feel as it passes over the tongue. Flavors are also very well balanced with notes of sweet caramel candy, toffee, dark fruits and toasted malt combined with a subtle spicy-citrusy hop contribution. The body and balanced flavor seems to keep the 9.9% alcohol almost unoticeable. Perhaps not a classic but a solid, drinkable American Strong for sure.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
a very typical lagunitas ale. it does seem a bit cleaner as the trademark straw type flavor is missing. the flavors introduce themselves in a classic way. a touch of vanilla sweetness, creamy and refreshing. a great brewer can do this. a bit taken aback as the hop profile is a little laid back and tame. this only serves to show off the rest of the beers attributes. what we would expect from lag and what some of us might like to see. careful this brew shows little alcohol!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz’er -- Poured a nice reddish medium amber with a firm 1/2 inch foam top. The aroma is quite pleasant, sweet and floral with an almost cinnamony aspect to it. Invitingly creamy and cushioned, this has a nice bouquet of pine and citrus, with a solid undercurrent of caramel malt. You would never pick this as 9.9% ... beautiful! (#3054, 8/10/2007)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This has a good looking pour, a clear, deep amber, slightly tinted with brown, and a creamy, sustained beige head. The aroma is rich and malty, a winey, caramel/toffee mix, and heavily hopped courtesy of the PNW. The creamy malts and the sharply bitter citric hops are fairly evenly balanced, keeping me from declaring this a DIPA. The strong ABV is lost beneath the malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness. Nice.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 5, 2008 Bottle. Hoppy aromas, citrus notes, reminds me of a DIPA. Taste is yummy; citrus, hops, slight molasses, and hardly a hint of the strong alcohol. Easy on the palate.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle... Beautiful, toasted amber ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Terrific retention. The earthy, malty aroma supplies heaps of caramel, tons of pink grapefruit and a touch of damp leather. Tastes like bitter grapefruit rind blended with caramel, Novocain and ethanol. Full-bodied and creamy with moderate carbonation. Lightly bitter, extremely astringent finish. Not a whole lot of subtlety here. Kudos to growler for splitting the bottle with me!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: Pours a clear, orange-brown body with a foamy, thick off-white head.
Smell: Aroma of lightly toasted grains amidst heavy hop scents of resin, grapefruit, and flowers.
Taste: Sugary caramel sweetness flush against the torrent of hop flavors and bitterness. Pine, grapefruit, and even some freshly-squeezed lemon juice. Finish acidic and bitter with some peppery ethanol lurking in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderately carbonated. Sticky, oily mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Another simplistic strong ale, and though its well priced, it just isn’t my cup of tea.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle. Pours a dark copper with a fluffy head. Powerful hop aroma, really enticing. Taste is a little thin but a huge explosion of hops in the mouth. The hops even linger on the palate after. This is really interesting and a nice change of pace.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle purchased at Monaghans. Poured a fantastic looking clear reddish amber with a nice foamy whiteish head. Aroma was very sweet with nice floral hoppiness, caramel, molases, and something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, figs possibly. Palate was medium with a nice touch of carbonation and a slight bit of alcohol warming on the back of my throat from the 9.28%. OVerall a nice beer that everyone enjoyed.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber. Pours a clear copper color with a 1 cm thick light tan head. Aroma is a light meld of spicy malts and some floral hops, maybe a hint of dark fruit wanting to come out. Taste has a spicy/citrusy combination in the beginning from the balanced malt/hops, with the finish having a nice crispness and subtle hop buzz. I liked it because of its balance, doesn’t try and overdo the hop load. Could have a livelier aroma, though.
