3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 23, 2013 Pours dark amber with a thick white head. Aroma is hoppy, mostly citrus rind and grapefruit, but there’s some nice molasses sweetness that balances. Flavor grassy, bready, sweet then punches you in the mouth with great bitterness. Another good beer from Lagunitas.

Bottle. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, piney hops, citrus, and molasses. Appearance is a deep copper with a long lasting tan head. Taste is caramel, toffee, sweet malt, piney and citrus hops, and sugar. Medium full body with medium carbonation.

the first lagunitas i wasn’t terribly impressed by. pours reddish with mild off-white head. nose is grapefruit and mild floral. taste is like every other hopped-up IPA with not as high an IBU. Good, but not great.

Gotta love the deep ruby color. Thick mouthfeel finishes fairly smooth, with the alcohol coming in at the end. A bit too much sweetness for my taste, but the flavor evens out overall.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer pours a perfect amber color with a small head. The nose is sweet hops and the taste follows the smell. A very smooth beer. You cannot tell from the taste that the ABV is 9.75%.

I love this beer! Sweet syrupy caramel aroma, beautiful orange/red color. Sweet, hoppy, floral. Smooth, hides the alcohol content well, I can drink so many, is dangerous :)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the Happy Gnome in Saint Paul, MN. This beer is a pretty straightforward amber with a small beige head. Aroma is funky and earthy -- lots of bitter basement smells. Red fruits -- maybe some strawberries and raspberries -- come through, as well as some musky apples. Taste is earthy basement hops (resin and grassy). Malts are more difficult to suss out -- some breadiness comes through but it’s not much. Medium sourness and a light sweetness are apparent, but the finish is really bitter and lasts for ages. This beer was an experience -- highly recommended.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 17, 2013 Pours dark golden, slightly hazy, lots of bubbles, finger creamy white head, thick lacing. Aroma is bready malt, toffee, floral and earthy hops. Flavor is slightly bitter floral hops, bready malt, slight fruity esters. Mouthfeel is medium, good amount of carbonation, slight alcohol heat and a bit peppery. Overall well balanced and tasty, not great, but pretty good.

6 pack from Ralphs. Smells ok. Copperish color. Tastes ok. Not really bitter. Thick and smooth and creamy and kind of icky. Real think and smooth so it covers almost all the alcohol. It’s ok. It would be a really good Belgium beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Top notch strong ale. Reminds me of an IPA with the bold fruity aromatic hops, but has a strong malt backbone to go with it. Pours a bronze color with a nice white head that quickly dissipates leaving moderate lacing. Lots of hops on the nose that translate into lots of grapefruit, bread, stone fruit, malt, toffee and spice on the tongue. It’s very strong at 9.75% abv, but even though it warms the back of your throat, it doesn’t taste too boozy. All-in-all and excellent ale that is worth drinking over and over.
