We brewed this especially bitter ale in dedication to all the world’s would-be astronauts, in remembrance of the 2005 St. Patrick’s Day Massacre on the Brewery Party Grounds and also in joyous celebration of our 20-day suspension that following January. Do the crime. Do the time. Get the bragging rights. Cheers!

Tap at Muddy Waters. A beautiful beer with a healthy amount of head and a definitive copper color. Smell has a decent hop presence. A lot of sweetness in this one. A little bitterness to offset the sweet. Great finish. Maybe the strongest offering from this brewery. Strong recommendation.

This is a damn good brew. I picked it up on a whim after working 7 days straight and this hit the mark and then some! Smell and taste are perfect, very piney and the alcohol is masked very well. Definitely a beer to watch yourself with as these are easy drinkers.

12 oz bottle from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. Tasted nice, had a sweet and savory aspect as well. Packed a wallop.

This starts out smelling of hops... the beautiful smells of pine and citrus. It pours a dark amber with hints of red with almost no head. This starts with the taste of pine, with a touch of vanilla, and then has a nice long oily, bitter finish. I’m glad this one was made again.

Brew pours a deep amber color w/ a full, semi creamy, pancake spattered, froth. Hangtime is lengthy. Residual lacing is thick and clumpy. Nice! Aromas of freshly mowed hops and a slight wintergreen on the malts. Full nectar w/ ample residual effers that create a creamy cotton texture. Thick, chewy malts meet sharp, splintering hops head on in a collision that seems to fuse the two forces together creating a wonderfully balanced brew of extreme proportions. Flavor complexities are cut short from the high hop rate but that does not deminish the overall complexity of this very drinkable brew. Due to the low caramel factor, this brew is quite dry w/ only a mild touch of molases. The hops are velvety w/ a touch of asprin and slightly aged citrus rind. The finish is bittered thoroughly w/ citrus rind. Overall: It’s a big brew in every sense of the word. The alcohol is well hidden, and it’s balanced nicely.

Pours a clear copper color. Fluffy off-white head that sticks around and leaves great lacing. Malty caramel and a even get a hint of coconut in the aroma. Malty and sweet with dark fruits. Nice balance of the bitterness. Some alcohol warming in the finish.

Drank from bottle. Nose is citrus, hops, and resin. Taste has a heavy orange presence a little sweet on the tongue with a dry and mildly bitter finish that doesn’t linger. Amazing beer

Pours a deep copper color into goose Island tulip glass. I get some pine and maple in the aroma. The flavor works in harmony with roasted nuts and spicy floral hops. Really a complex palate. These were bottled at 9.3% and is a warming sipper. Good night-cap.

So many breweries have great stories, but the outlaw escapade that inspired Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale is one for the legends. Apparently, when life gives Lagunitas lemons (or, you know, an undercover investigation shut-down) they made lemona- Er, I mean, really great beer. Shut-Down Ale pours lovely amber with eggshell-colored suds and some of the best lacing I’ve ever seen. Aroma is weirdly wonderful. Savory, herbacous hops, soapiness, toffee, molasses, and booze. Flavor showcases syrupy sweetness and resinous bitterness. You really do get the fullness of both extremes, too, which can take getting used to. Fortunately, the booze is happy to help you get used to it with its warmth and candy-like taste. Basically, drinking this ale is such a hedonistic delight (all the more perfect with 66.6 IBU’s) that you’ll feel like you’re screwing with your clothes on. This different from being screwed with your clothes on, which is undoubtedly what an undercover shut-down must feel like.

I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
