On tap at 16 tons A: Cloudy rusted copper color with a thin head. Some nice legs. N: Wow. Very dank. Some grapefruit and pineapple. Really, really herbal and grassy. Big caramel notes hold up the nose. Peppercorns, ginger, and floral notes. T: Hop bomb with a lot of malt notes. Incredibly huge. Bitterness hits on the backend with mixed tropical fruits. House yeast character is prevalent. M: Very sticky and resinous. Heavy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. O: This is a slap you in the face, take your wallet beer. It’s excellent. It’ll definitely take its toll. Nice.

On tap at Belmont Station. Colour...a deep, orange-amber with a tiny of garnet and a very thick off-white head. Nose...husky, crushed hops, hop resin grapefruit skin and damp fresh hay. Palate...intensely sweet from front to back with an intensely sweat-like character that’s actually better than it sounds! Quince and pith are prominent up front, but overall, this ale definitely has a strong leaning towards the grapefruit side as opposed to the piney side. This is a viscous ale which, coupled with the sweetness, might make it seem like a dessert ale (and perhaps it is!).

Pours a clear golden color with an off white head. It has a very clean, candied grapefruit bouquet. It has a wonderful grapefruit forward flavor. There’s a nearly perfect mouthfeel for the style. It’s very complimentary to the flavors. No discernible alcohol warmth. This is a magnificent beer.

Got a growler of this from Chuck’s Hop Shop (Seattle), let it sit for 3 months and hit it with my phatty brother-in-law in from Sydney. It was special. Aroma downgraded to a 7 but mainly because of time in growler I suspect. Beautiful clear honey golden colour with enough head but not a great deal (again, time away from shelf and in growler.) It was however, still well carbonated and an absolute pleasure to imbibe. Pretty full and resinous MF with hints of bitter but well balanced with medium sweet to round out this bad boy and make that 9.2% sing like a 6.5%. Overall fantastic IIPA.

Tasted with JCB. Pours a clean soft golden with two fingers of sticky white head. Nose is super resinous, pine resin and citrus oil. Super oily/heady. Piney for sure. Oily mouthfeel with a medium bitterness.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a mostly clear golden with a small white head. Aroma of piney and resinous hops, balanced by doughy malt - nice and bitter on the nose. Flavour of piney and resinous hops as well, well-hopped as most Lagunitas IPAs are, balanced by just enough doughy malt. Excellently made with a very highly-hopped body, without being shittily stringent. Delicious.

Tap at brewpub June 2012-Hmm, so im sitting here at the brewpub patio, enjoying the nice weather and hot ladies here. However, the service sucked and i just got here after my awesome experience at Russian River. To me, the beer sucked here, maybe because I had just come from RR. however, this beer pours deep brown with a small tan head. nose is nutty unrefined husks musty lite grains lite piney hops and un balanced. lots of dark malts piney hops and some medicinal qualities. man, this beer sucks compared to RR

JCB (3808) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUL 12, 2012
Couple mason jars with emacgee at Tyler’s, Durham. Unlike a lot of Lag’s other West Coast IPAs, this one has a straightforward piney, pungent, bitter thing happening. Yes, yes, 420. But it works reasonably well, with a nice bitter palate and some tropical/citrus coming along in the taste to give just a bit of relief to the weed. Proceed the Hessian.

Golden orange pour with small head. Mild pine-citrus with hoppy notes. Pretty refreshing... Give it a try.
