4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Oh my goodness! Menu says 9.2% (website says 10.5%) and tapped today at 6pm - on tap from Tap25 in Livermore. Pours deep orange, a little cloudy, nice white head that eventually disappears. Smells of pine, overpowering sweet citrus and tastes of earthy, orange/grapefruit, even hops/mary jane (wait...420 is in the title?). Malt is there but hops really stand out. Big, bold, dank, resinous, and sweet...is this the best Lagunitas beer since Sucks? Yep. Great DIPA.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rusty dark with a medium head and lacing. In your face hop aroma and a grapefruit hop taste. A little earthy but I think that’s the double IPA talking. Medium body with a resin mouthfeel. Pretty good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that was lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex citrus and resin hop aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer and exceeded my expectations.

If you have the chance to buy/order this, do it. It’s an amazing dipa that will toss your pallet for a loop that sets you down gently in a green alpha acid ridden bed of awesome.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Spicy, boozy, potent, fruity, intense, and thick. Leaves a major burn. Some good flavors, but it’s too big and overwhelming for me to completely enjoy.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep orange pour. The nose is intense. Loads of lemon, lime, tropical
fruit and some incredibly sticky, dank hop character. Rich and chewy
with a lingering sticky, rich fruitiness. Intense and yet somehow
light. Malts show a lean sweetness with just a touch of honey and some
light peppery notes. Really dangerous because it tastes nothing like
it’s strength. Incredible.

A 4/20 IPA release by Lagunitas? Hmm I wonder if it’s going to smell like... Oh Lord, yes. Waldo’s Special Ale is in a new class of dank. The smell is piney, floral, piney, grassy, piney, herbal, and piney. Appearance is a ruby-amber shade with a nice head. Given the pine-dominated aroma, I was surprised at Waldo’s complexity. Yes, it has plenty of aggressive resin bitterness. But there’s also sweet malt, bright citrus, spicy ginger-like notes, and nectar. The feel is damn near syrupy; this is an ale you practically chew. This 4/20 special is winner from Lagunitas. Imagine that.
