3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rated on 10-23-2010. This bottled beer pours a medium sized beige fizzy head with a short retention, transparent amber body, fizzy carbonation, and a good amount of lacing. The aromas are citrus, pine, bitter, earthy hops, malt, and chocolate. The taste is bitter, malty, chocolate, citrus, and pine hops. The mouth feel is lively and this beer is medium bodied. Wow! This is another tasty beer as the hops are upfront in the aroma and flavor but not overdone. The flavors meet together very nicely. This is a well rounded beer that is worth trying and a beer that I would certainly drink again.

Backlog. Bottle tried @ Green Lion Inn 2011. One of the better ’imperial’ brown ales i’ve had. Haven’t seen it since though.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
P: Red tinted brown opaque body with streaming bubbles. Almost a full finger of frothy tan head that settles to a choppy wake and leaves bubbly lacing draped on the edge.
S: Lime, grapefruit, roasty notes, rye bread, chopped nuts, hints of cocoa powder, cinnamon and dirty earthy yeast.
T/M: Taste follows the nose with the same roasted malts, citrus hops and pine oil. Oily feel with an aggressive sting of carbonation. Woody spiced alcohol sting in the back of the throat once warmed. Finishes dry with an aftermath of citrus hops and toasted dark bread.
O: A great hopped up brown ale with divinely balanced flavors. I love roasty bready malt with citrus hops. This is a beer that I would regularly drink. Doggone good!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled in Feb 2012
Pours a nice brown with a solid sheet of light tan foam. Smells robustly hoppy with some resin and tea. Nice malty background as well, burnt caramel and crystal malts. The flavor is malt first, slightly oxidized with a good helping of bitter and noble hops. Some grass and pekoe, nice flavor; just what I was looking for this morning honestly, glad I chose this one. Medium bodied with slightly hi carb and a wet finish. I like this beer, would actually like it more with a couple more months I’d guess. Good stuff.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep amber (almost garnet) color out of the bottle with a lasting tan head. Nose of brown sugar and some wet card board. Lots of brown sugar sweetness with dark fruit and a bloody oxidation. I may have kept this bottle in the cellar too long.
