WTF Ale. A malty, robust, jobless Recovery Ale! We’re not quite in the Red, or in the Black... Does that mean we’re in the Brown?

A big Ol’ Imperial Brown Ale to help you with your slipperly slide on into springtime. Rich, smooth, dangerous & chocolatey.

According to Lagunitas this beer is "A big Ol’ Imperial Brown Ale to help you with your slipperly slide on into springtime. Rich, smooth, dangerous & chocolatey". It’s a good brew. A - Rich, deep, opaque brown color with tan frothy head that lasted only few minutes. S - A rather mild aroma hints of caramel malts and citrus hoppiness...pleasant aroma. I didn’t really get any chocolate though. T - Tastes like it smells... Caramel comes through nicely, citrus hoppiness...faint chocolate. Something kinda spicy at the end...nice though. M - medium in body D - refreshing and damn drinkable...especially at $4.50/pint Serving type: on-tap

bottle. Brown with one finger head. Malty base with the big hops you’d expect from Lagunitas. Good stuff that goes down easy.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a dark brown colored body, yet slightly transparent, two finger white foamy head that lasts a good full three minutes and gently slides in the middle, decent amount of foamy clingy lacing. The smell had a strong caramel malty yet combined very nicely with the hops. The taste had a bittersweetness through the malts and hops leads to a smooth bitter caramel aftertaste, still a quick dry finish. On the palate, it sat about at a medium, somewhat sessionable, carbonation seems pretty good for the style - not too harsh, but still packs it to ya - still its mainly smooth. Overall, good American Strong Ale that I’ll be sure to look for again.

A- Pours a ruddy brown hue with a 1.5 finger tan head which sticks around for a while. S- Hops, hops and more hops. Grapefruit with hints of caramel. T- Deep malty goodness runs through followed by a wall of grapefruity hops. M- Medium bodied with medium carbonation. D- An extremely drinkable brew, especially for the price. Lagunitas rarely disappoints and this is no exception.

Rated on 10-23-2010. This bottled beer pours a medium sized beige fizzy head with a short retention, transparent amber body, fizzy carbonation, and a good amount of lacing. The aromas are citrus, pine, bitter, earthy hops, malt, and chocolate. The taste is bitter, malty, chocolate, citrus, and pine hops. The mouth feel is lively and this beer is medium bodied. Wow! This is another tasty beer as the hops are upfront in the aroma and flavor but not overdone. The flavors meet together very nicely. This is a well rounded beer that is worth trying and a beer that I would certainly drink again.

Backlog. Bottle tried @ Green Lion Inn 2011. One of the better ’imperial’ brown ales i’ve had. Haven’t seen it since though.

P: Red tinted brown opaque body with streaming bubbles. Almost a full finger of frothy tan head that settles to a choppy wake and leaves bubbly lacing draped on the edge. S: Lime, grapefruit, roasty notes, rye bread, chopped nuts, hints of cocoa powder, cinnamon and dirty earthy yeast. T/M: Taste follows the nose with the same roasted malts, citrus hops and pine oil. Oily feel with an aggressive sting of carbonation. Woody spiced alcohol sting in the back of the throat once warmed. Finishes dry with an aftermath of citrus hops and toasted dark bread. O: A great hopped up brown ale with divinely balanced flavors. I love roasty bready malt with citrus hops. This is a beer that I would regularly drink. Doggone good!
