This beer was named as the "zwickel", which is a small device at the fermentation and storation tanks used by the brewers to take samples and to controll the brewing process. Zwickel-Beer is not filtered so it keeps its natural content of proteines, polyphenols and minerals.

Bottle. Hazy golden with a rich creamy and lacing head. Nice grassy hop aroma. Hoppiness leads the way, and it is all very grassy, tasting hay. Smooth, full body. An über-zwickel.

Bottle, Frankfurt Airport. This has a fresh, balanced, taste with dry, herbal bitterness and light pale malts. Solid, if unspectacular example.

It’s hazy, light golden with a creamy, white head, The aroma has notes of malt, flower and grass. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of malt, fresh grain, straw, flower and dry citrus. The finish has a light bitterness. It’s a truly nice beer.

Brown 0.5 litre bottle, best before 8th July 2010, drank 23rd Frb 2010. The second beer from this brewery to be reviewed this evening (of three). Poured into a vase shaped pint glass. Very pale yellow, misty rather than murky or cloudy, thin looking actually. On top sat an uneven crust of foam, white in colour. Next time I have one I’ll pour it into a stone mug (stein) I think! Yeast esters came up from the beer, mixed with hints of hops and the promise of mixed spices (cloves, corriander and nutmeg). The taste was refreshing and wheatish in flavour, the aforementioned spices did appear, but only lightly and in the background. Enjoyed the beer, wish I’d bought more while staying close to the brewery last December.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2008 Bottle: Fruity-chalky nose covering sweet-malt and hops; pale, hazy, golden, big stable white head with an impressive lace; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, soft MF, mild sweet and aromatic-hoppy finish with a lingering hoppy tail. O.K., a very good, well rounded Zwickel......

Test vom 7.11.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 7,10,11,12,11,11 - 10,60

Thanks to Erzengel for that one! Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, modest turbid, nice head. Starts mild, malty, dry-yeasty. Grasy-malty with some mild sourish notes. Finish still yeasty dry. Okay.
