Bottle 33 cl. Pours black with small fast vanishing brown tan head. At first taste is very smooth and rounded with some harsh in it and a nice alcohol warmth. Notes of roasted malts, salty licorice, coffee, dark chocolate. Slightly too harsh at end. Needs something to balance the harsh aftertaste with. After getting used to it the harsh aftertaste mellows down a bit revealing more tasting sides of this one.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Stas. Black with a nice light brown head. Lovely aroma with lots of dark chocolate, roast, liqueur and some dark fruits. Bittersweet flavor with dark chocolate, some roast, a bit of soy sauce, a liqueur-like touch, a fruity note and a bitter finish. Quite full and rounded mouthfeel. Good.

12oz bottle via Summer Secret Santa 2014. Love the old school cap you rip off with a little ring. Real cool. Once it pops it pours a very murky black with loads of foamy, lacing, beige head. Nose has bit licorice notes, both black licorice and a little bit of red rope too, some distinct red grape notes, heavy roasted notes, some dried cherry, some raisin, a little rock candy, hints of rubber. Flavor has all sorts of wild things happening, mild rubber, mild pencil lead, mild squid ink, mild maple candy, some brown sugar, some rock candy, malt, licorice, a little cocoa powder, some cream soda, a little egg creme too. Full bodied, slick, lightly astringent finish. Really interesting. Very complex.

Bottle as a gift from Helsinki. BB 27.01.2017. Pours a very dark brown and appears pitch black in the glass. Head is tan, thick, and drops slowly. Nose... needed more than half an hour to warm to really reveal itself - it’s heavy roasted malts and dark bittersweet chocolate, grapefruity-grassy bitter hops, and some alcoholic warmth in the end. Taste starts with smooth chocolaty sweetness and black bread crust sourish, and turns into hoppy bitter quite fast. Lovely! Body is thick with syrupy palate and medium carbonation, finish is fulfillingly bitter with an undertone of dry ashiness. A great brew!

(Laitilan Kievari Imperiaali) Bottlw 330 ml at home, pull-off cap, from Hermod, thanks! Poured into a small snifter, ABV 9.2% Pitch black colour on the body, small dark brown head on top, thick enough and with good retention in spite of its small size. Thin line of lacing around the glass. Aroma of chocolate, oats, a bit lactic, light roasted malts, liquorice. Great taste, less chocolate but still there, lots of coffee now, roasted malts, coal, light alcohol, nicely bitter on the aftertaste. Thick, almost chewy body, carbonation a tad high, quite dry on the palate. Really great beer!

Sinful and black as the deepest dungeon. Frothy big beige head. One big lacing down the glass. Good looking stuff. Typical impy aroma. Chocolate, coffee and mild licorice. Full body and tad sweet. Rich bitterness and a soft carbonation. Maybe to much bitterness. Chocolate, coffee and mild roasted flavor with some licorice in the end. Very dry! A decent IS, but not a classic.

Black body, no head. Very nice aroma with malts, syrup and sugar. Taste is quite dry, slightly bitter. Slick mouthfeel and very little carbonation. Not very good for an imp stout in my opinion.

Opaque black color with thick head. Oily appearance can be seen clear when pouring the beer. Aroma has loads of roastiness with elements of coffee and chocolate. Taste is sour, balanced and lasting. Flavors of black currant, liquorice and some roasted malt. Bitter and sweet aftertaste. Nice one.
