3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 spilledpint (322) - Iowa, USA - JUL 27, 2012Ar: Chocolate malt and roast; not overly powerful but nice.
Ap: Pours deep dark brown with 1" light tan head.
T: Rich chocolate malt flavor, lightly bittered finish. Very well balanced, medium roast.
P: Medium body, a touch sticky, moderate carbonation.
O: Different take on a porter, with pretty toned down roastiness that really brings the chocolate flavor to the forefront. Nice change of pace.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 5000 (4974) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAY 3, 2013
Bottle: Deep brown, cola hued edges, thin to moderate sudsy light beige head, spotty lacing. Fairly assertive roasted malt aroma, resiny hops (minor), with a touch of coffee. Similar tongue, a bit of bakers
chocolate.   Slightly acrid tho. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. Finishes without the hops it started with, lingering roastiness. Not bad, but seems pretty middle of the road.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 jebert (406) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 4, 2012
Pours a dark reddish brown with a small tan/brown head. Nose is malt and chocolate. Very creamy on the palate, this beer is full of flavor- malt, molasses, honey, toffee and chocolate, Hops is light on the finish. A very good beer that pairs well with a variety of snacks as well as cheese and sausage.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DavoleBomb (1389) - Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 10, 2012
Poured into a pint glass.
3.5 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy tan head. Retention is good and a short ring of lacing is left.
3.5 S: Grainy roastiness, chocolate, and tangy caramel. Good, but the tanginess puts this at a bit "off." Moderately malty.
3.0 T: Like the nose, but the tangy tartness is increased. It’s not an infection type tang, but it’s a sign of something not being done right along the brewing process. Still, it’s not bad.
3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. A touch crisp with a bit more creaminess.
3.0 D: Not bad, but not without problems. Good, strong flavors, but a couple bad ones as well.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Brigadier (2230) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - SEP 16, 2011
12 ounce bottle
Finally I tracked down a bottle of the last Lake Louie beer that I have not tried. This one was just as good as many of the others. A solid porter that probably is under most people’s radar grab one the next time you find yourself in the Madison / Spring Green area.
Aroma / Appearance - The deep brown body is rich with a soft powdery head like the fizz on top of a soft drink. Malt driven and dense the hops are present as a second aspect. With a light trace of coffee it is excellent for the style.
Flavor / Palate - Malt, bittersweet chocolate, and an inexpensive truffle blend in the back of the throat. The light bitter finish eases from a full bodied presence to a lingering memory. A soft alcoholic touch is icing on the cake. Coming from Lake Louie this is another excellent product at a great price point.
