2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Tasting at PapsÝ
Hazy dark amber color. The aroma is quite nice, woody and caramel, but also light sourness. The infection is more evident in the flavor: sour cabbage, caramel, strong bitterness. Undrinkable.

Botle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of SecretSanta himself. Pours a cloudy amber with a small off-white head. Spicy aroma with some tartness. Solid body, a little low in carbonation, sweet caramel and aromatic hops with an underlying tartness. Discreet bitter finish. Quite decent. 100410

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A fantastic beer and something scoth ale lovers should be on the look out for.
i prefer a darker color this was a deep brown pour, lots of sediment and good head. Nose is rich and malty some of the wood comes through in the nose. The taste is rich and very smooth. Flavors of fresh earth, cider, dashes of chocolate and an aged maltiness are all in great balance. An outstanding scotch ale.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
crossed out, but why? .. . bitter molasses and dark syrup aromas in the nose .. good foam, firm healthy lacing .. slightly meaty aftertaste, dusty light chocolate notes, but not something i could drink everyday .. pretty good but i like my scotches peaty! .. . The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with..

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle courtesy of FrankenBrew poured into a tulip.
The aroma is more roasty than the Warped Speed, with a bigger brown sugar sweetness with some peat smoke hints. The aroma took a while to open up and there is some booze in there. Very complex nose.
The taste isnít as sweet as Warped Speed with a bit more smoke and more heavily roasted. The finish is fairly boozy with some thick rich caramel malts, molasses and dark fruits.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied and really malty, sugary and sticks on the palate for a while.
A good, thick malt bomb of a scotch ale that has just enough smoke and fruit to keep things from getting too syrupy.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Deep amber-brown color with a steady beige head. Sweet caramel aroma, not diacetly. Thick and malty, with a very well done interplay between the chocolate and amber malt. Rugged in itís malty depth, but still a ouch watery and drinkable. No real hop character. ABV is quite apparent after a few sips, not so well incorporated/hidden. At times there is an almost artificial grape taste supplied by the amber malt.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear, dark brown, with a thin off-white head. Subtle malt aroma. Moderate malt flavors, subtle caramel flavor. Medium-heavy body, some alcohol burn. Iíd like more flavor. I will have to try this again as the first beer of the night.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep mahogany pour, thin white head, only temporary lace. Aromas of apple cider and cream soda. Varied malt profile on the favor: cracker, cider, biscuit, fig. A strong dose of bittering hops balances any would-be sweetness but adds little in the way of hops aromatics. Interesting harmony of smoke and bubblegum. One flaw is an underlying cardboardiness. Medium body, drinks smooth and warm.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
BottleÖ Murky caramel-colored ale with a small creamy, off-white head. The earthy, malty, acidic nose is of caramel, dry leather, lactic acid and black cherries. Full-bodied with soft carbonation. Tastes infected to me - unless itís wood aged - in which case, itís still infected, but in a purposeful way. Itís fairly tangy and Iím not convinced that any Scotch ale should be this acidic. Also, lots of caramel and black cherries, but itís every bit as tart as it is sweet. Finishes tangy and dry. Hmmm? Iím confused by this one and Iím not certain this is what the brewer intended, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Thanks to Skyview for the bottle!

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle in trade from wisrarebeer. Thanks! Pours clear dark amber maroon with short lived beige head. Smell is earthy, nutty, malty and a bit peaty. Taste is smooth, chocolate and caramel maltiness, and slightly tart and peaty with a touch of hops. Creamy soft mouthfeel and carbonation with a medium to full body. Really not too bad, and pretty good as Scotch ales got, but this one didnít make me love them.
