Brewed in the classic Scotch Ale style dating back to the 1700’s, with a deep reddish brown color. Full of body, sweetness and flavor. Higher in alcohol content but possessing a smooth and lightly hopped finish. Best served at 45 degrees F in a room temperature pint glass. For the ’Big Beer’ drinkers among us.

From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with no bottled/freshness date. Poured a solid cola brown with a foamy beige head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing, minimal amount of sticking. Aromas of grape and orange fruitiness with a vinous alcohol, a light caramel, earthy and a barrel woodiness. Moderate carbonation, a soft crispness and smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. Malty taste upfront, caramel and powdery chocolate, the barest touches of peat, a vanilla woodiness, dusty yeasty and a dryish earthy, orangy and malty finish, good drinkability. A pleasant Scotch ale from Lake Louie, not the best I’ve ever had, but still quite quaffable.

12oz bottle, no date. Pours a deep reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, butterscotch, slight smoked peat and nuts. Smells quite nice. Flavor is very sweet until the smoked peat shows up 2/3 through. Does have a chalky bitter finish. Taste follows the aroma, minus the butterscotch. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Bottled. Poured a rich toffee/amber with a short cap of beige head... rather intricate lacing followed. Toasted caramel and cereal malts lead the aroma.. followed by smoked cedar, dried pears, and dried leafy hoppage... quite intriguing. Flavor is slow to develop.. with toasted caramel, rye, and lightly smoked peat along with alcohol highlights, nuttiness, and more pears... came on strong after a short while. Lighter-bodied and slick on the palate.. just felt OK. Finish was a tad tacky with rich caramel malts and faint peat. Another solid brew from these guys!

Thanks to stonecrusher for this... Appears a dark amber color with a small off white head. Mild scattered lace is left around the glass. Smell is slightly smokey, roasted malt, caramel, with a light buttery diacytel aroma in the background. The taste is about the same as the aromas. I may have to open up the other bottle as a comparison being that s.c. got this direct from the brewery not even a month ago. I was just expecting a bit more from this. Mouthfeel is slightly thin with hints of caramel and candy lingering.

12oz bottle shared courtesy of weeare138. Poured a medium brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of peat, nuts, caramel, and a little buttery. Tastes of nuts, roast, caramel, and light peat. I didn’t get the butter in the flavor like I did in the aroma. Thinner body.

Poured a hazy brown color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, light roast, some diactyl, and nuts. Taste of more nuts, and roast, caramel malts, with a dry smokiness, and a touch of tartness. Seems like it is beginning to head south.

Thanks to weeare138. Pours a darker ruby red with a small bubbly off white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, wood, light roastiness and some butter. Flavor was more of the caramel, toffee and light roasted malts with some nuts and more of the butter.

I think Dave gave this to me. The beer pours to a deep brown body with dark highlights and a creamy khaki head. The aroma is strongly milky caramel and light smoked pear. Kinda strange. The flavor is a strong toasty peated smoked malt, raisin bread, milk caramels. Nice bitterness. The palate is medium bodied, chewy, smooth.

Nice frothy/creamy tan head. Rich mossy caramel and hop aroma. Mmm... nice caramel earth and raisins in the flavor. Some roasty smoke and caramelly chocolate... like chocolate Reisins. Sweet, but kind of expected and just smokey enough for my buy-in.

Bottle. Very dark brown body with a thin tan head. Big caramel/milk chocolate sweetness in the aroma with nut dryness and some apple to break it up. Very appetizing. Medium body with a gentle but dense carbonation to really fill it out. The main thurst of the flavor is a strong raisin/plum sweetness with some chocolate malt alongside. As this dissapates roasty black malt and bitter stemmy hops come into play. By far the most interesting part is the lingering, smoky finish. The initial sweetness is a bit cloying but the roast and hops and a delight to linger on.
