3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle I picked up in Wisconsin on my recent road trip to Yellowstone. Pours a lightly hazed deep amber with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left a partial layer of foam with each sip. Pleasant aroma of malt and a bit of brown sugar. The flavor has ample malt with some brown sugar sweetness. Just a bit of toast in the flavor. Mild bitterness at the finish. Solid.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a clear, dark, reddish brown with a finger of frothy beige head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of caramel malts and dark fruits. The same in the taste, with a slight alcohol kick. Very good scotch ale.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma was somewhat underwhelming, appearance was also lacking. Has a good taste but lacks complexity. The palate was decent, overall I think there are much better options from this Brewery. But this is one of their most widely distributed beers.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at BonFyre American Grille in Madison, WI., and dispensed to a shaker displaying a clear brown tone, with a modest head of light tan/ cream colored foam that reduced rather quickly to a ring & film, but left some ribbony lacing on the glass. The nose was light grain, toast, and some caramel & light molasses sweetness. Medium bodied with good carbonation, fairly hidden alcohol presence, medium hop bitterness, and some lingering, woody/smoky astringency. A decent Scottish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A bit weak aroma despite the deep scotch color. Taste is sweet and rich with hints of alcohol and lots of malt. Finishes with a bit of greasy but good finish. Good WI scotch ale

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 27, 2012 Poured a nice mahogony red. Thin off white head. Minimal aroma (possibly due to over-chilling,... not my doing.) Taste provides a very nice sequence - toasty at first, then a touch of sweet hits the tongue, wrapped in a subtle hop finish. Very drinkable. ...Rerating 11/27 - Get one thatís not over chilled... Nice head dissipating to a thin foam haze on top, lacing on the glass. Aroma - still faint but dark baked banana bread.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured into a snifter.
4.0 A: Faintly hazed (I think) deep plum/mahogany color. Two fingers of frothy/creamy beige head. Retention is pretty good and a short ring of lacing is left.
4.5 S: Tons of caramel with a good bit of toffee behind it. Sweet, like it should be. A little bit of toastiness. Raisiny fruitiness with sugary candied cherries. Very nice.
4.0 T: Again lots of caramel, toffee, and sweetness. This isnít cloying in the least though. Itís sweet, but well balanced. Raisin, plum, and cherry fruitiness. Only mildly sugary in the taste. Toasty with the slightest touch of smoke. Again, very nice.
4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy. Good here, but Iíd prefer a bit more creaminess.
4.0 D: Supremely drinkable and a damn good scotch ale. I had the bourbon barrel version of this and it sucked, so I guess it was the barreling that was fucked up and not the base beer.
