Brewed in the classic Scotch Ale style dating back to the 1700ís, with a deep reddish brown color. Full of body, sweetness and flavor. Higher in alcohol content but possessing a smooth and lightly hopped finish. Best served at 45 degrees F in a room temperature pint glass. For the íBig Beerí drinkers among us.

Shared bottle. Very solid beer. Candy sweetness and malty perhaps a little smoke or am I imagining? Brownish red in color. A bit thin but a very good beer nonetheless. Well done.

12 oz. bottle at my buddyís rehearsal dinner at The Madison Club. Pours a clear reddish-brown with a finger-plus of creamy off-white head. The aroma and flavor are both pretty sugary and sweet. Toffee, cookie, sweet bread, toasted sugar, nuts, and dried fruits. Light-bodied, with soft medium-high carbonation and a malty, sweet mouthfeel. Iím normally a little higher on Lake Louie stuff. This isnít my favorite of their offerings.

Sweet for a scotch ale. Lots of hopping on the nose, but simply profiled as hop fruit, crystal malt, and a medium minerality.

Tap by app Iíll keep it short because Iím using my phone. Pours a deep amber not much head but a good Scottish ale. This has been my local tap beer of choice for a couple of years now.

DLD 2013 Bottle Share. Deep brown with some red tinting on the sides, beige head. Aroma is of caramel, toast, wood, and cherries. Flavor is more earthy with notes of wood, oak, caramel, roast, herbal hops, and nuts. Body is on the lighter side.

On tap at The Old Fashioned. Tanish head, amber color. Aroma of toasted malt and earth. Taste is very dark fruit and some earthy hops, and caramel. full bodied and slick. A good beer for this -10 degree weather. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Itís gotta be me, as I just donít get a lot of flavor out of this. Poured perhaps a bit cold with a modest light tan head that soon settled and some lace. Color is a clear mahogany with some bubble trails. Aroma is very malty, toffee, caramel, hint of smoke, grain. Flavorís kind of bland; not as pronounced as nose, some tang up front, only a suggestion of scotch ale. Body/carbonation are excellent. Finish is like flavor, a slightly nuttiness lingers and thatís it. Meh.

12oz. bottle. Aroma of darkly toasted, sweet malts, some faint dried fruit and toffee with hints of earthiness and black bread. Dark, clear red-brown in color with a lasting, creamy, off-white head. Flavor profile is malty, gently toasty and lightly bitter with suggestions of raisin, nut and earth, some lingering tangy fruitiness and suggestions of alcohol late. Smooth, lightly prickly and effervescent on the palate with a medium body. Really very drinkable.
