A brewer, a coffee roaster and a craft beer snob walk into a bar in Muskoka. The result: A rich winter beer full of coffee, chocolate and roasted barley. Perfect with a hearty meal on a cold winter night. Cheers!

The body’s good enough and the coffee meshes well with the porter so I’m happy with it. Not jumping around but a little grin. That’s all I could ask for I suppose. The head was quite beautiful. Coffee was mostly in the smell and slightly in the aftertaste, didn’t carry a punch, but I guess that’s not what they were going for. Very good for a new brewery, looking forward to the future.

Pours jet black with a nice size, creamy, tan head. Aroma is of dark coffee beans, roasted barley and dark chocolate. Tastes of espresso, chocolate, and roasted barley. Has a smooth medium body with low carbonation. Had a dry feeling with bitterness from the coffee, great lacing too.

0.5 draft. Clear, dark brown color with a reddish tinge and a small, off-white head. Aroma of coffee and butter, the former obviously dominating the entire experience. Taste is likewise composed of coffee but this time more chocolate too boot. A medium body, a creamy texture, and a flat carbonation. Finish is coffee, coffee, and once again coffee. Overall not a bad beer, nonetheless although it is a a coffee porter it should feature more complexity than just plain espresso flavors.

Minimal tan head, rich dark brown body. Aroma of cocoa. Taste of cocoa and light sweetness. Not bitter, very little coffee flavour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Coffee and chocolate aroma. Opaque brown colour. Bitter coffee front with sour finish. Heavy body with lively carbonation. A bit of an odd beer.

Aroma is fairly subtle but I get chocolate, mocha, vanilla and coffee. Taste is light and not too complex overall, same chocolate and vanilla and caramels as aroma but sadly finished quite flat. Appearance is black with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

I’ve had this in past years and was on the fence about picking up the 2014. Glad I did. They’ve upped the abv by more than a 50% increase, and the aromas and flavours seem to pop all the more for it. The body is dark, the head is mocha. Not a lot of lacing going on. Aromas are mocha, dark bitter chocolate, and cafe au lait. A fairly thick mouthfeel, borderline syrupy. The tastes are a beautiful blend of bitter and sweet. Dark chocolate, some coffee, but a mocha sweetness in the mix too. Even a hint of red fruit giving it some juiciness. Overall, they’ve greatly improved the recipe in my opinion, and I’d pick up this version annually. Gladly.

Bottle, the first beer on TvM’s Bachelor Party Northwest Ale Trail Expedition. Deep dark hearty looking pour. Dry cocoa and light coffee, medium bodied, finishes with a coppery/bitten lip metallic tang. Not bad.

750ml bottle pours dark brown, almost black in color with a finger of light brown head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is coffee and chocolate with some roasted grain notes. Taste is a dark fruit and chocolate malty sweetness with a coffee and roasted grain bitterness. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. A typical brew for the style and only somewhat recommended, maybe for another notch on the beer belt.

Black with a small brown head. Aroma is mild coffee, chocolate, soy sauce, roasted grains. Medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel, slightly roasty on the palate with an umami finish, hint of metallic aftertaste. Taste is chocolate, subtle coffee, dates, very light roast.

Bottle share. Dark brown. Aroma of coffee, salt water, metallic, light chocolate. Taste is sweet and bitter. Low carbonation, slightly thin and oily, smooth, and a gentle dry finish.
