(Rating #6206)

Bottle. Bright golden-orange with a finger or so of blue-white head - looks very nice! Aroma of bread dough, tangerine, pineapple, candied lemon, bit of ginger - quite complex, actually. Flavour is a bit more straightforward, but still good - lemon biscuit up front, ginger building in the middle, bitter orange and grapefruit in the finish with a bit of pepper. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this given that it was a 9 month old bottle that I found in the back of my stash, but it was a pleasant and enjoyable surprise.

[6344-20140523] Tap. Mild grainy yeast aroma. Slightly hazy, pale orange body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Yeasty yogurty flavour. Medium body. Fair. (5/3/5/3/10) 2.6

Overheard: "The beginning is a bit like puke, the middle is asparagus, and it has a very pleasing finish."

750 ml bottle. Pours a clear golden with a thick, resilient white head. Aroma is grapefruit and peppercorn. Flavor is fresh cereal, fruit, orange peel. Finish is grapefruit, lemon, peppercorn, grass. Lingering grapefruit and pepper. Light body, average carbonation.

Pours pale gold with a fat finger of white head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, moderate lacing. (4/5) Nose is doughy yeast, wheat, citrus, some faint ginger. (6/10) Taste is mild sweet, bitter and sour. (6/10) Light body, moderate to low sustained carbonation, crisp tart bitter finish. (3/5) Not bad, but a little muddled. I’m not entirely clear on what style they’re going for here, other than “generic pale ale”. With spice. But not too much. It’s certainly not offensive, but it’s nothing special either. And now I’ve got The Log Driver’s Waltz stuck in my head. I dunno whether that’s a good thing or a bad one. (12/20)

Pours a light amber. Moderate white head. Aromas are citrus, lemon, ginger, wheat, spice box, and some grainy cereal. Tastes are lightly bitter citrus, some ginger on the swallow, maybe a touch of sourness. Overall, this feels like a punchy saison, without the white pepper, and is one of the most interesting Lake of Bay’s offerings.

750 ml bottle from MG. Golden with a white head. Yeasty dough aroma with some ginger. The flavour is of simple Belgian golden ale with the lemon and ginger noticeable but not prominent. Overall it’s not bad, my biggest complaint would be a lack of drinkability.

Not as thrilling as a river-walk might be but better than falling in the water. A light gold with a foamy white cap, aroma of light spices, wheat and lemon. I didn’t snag any ginger from this and for the word ginger being in the style it should have had more. The lemon notes were nice and the sweetness, crispness and light body made it a nice refreshing summer sipper.
