Well, I ainít even gonna be shy about it, I loved this beer. It has a pretty shitty rating but I loved it. I am still curious as to why íRed Ale" is not a style and must be classified as an Amber when it clearly stands apart. Firstly, this brew is a pretty redhead, a rusted gold with a long lasting head. A wonderful bouquet of burnt toffee, barnyard, fresh bread and buckwheat honey awaits the nose. It is quite sweet and very malty, exactly how I like my reds unless they claim to be Red IPAs or some such hoppy style. Not too bubbly and smoothness like silk make it a pleasure to drink. Iíd raise this pint any day.

50 cl can. Pours a clear reddy brown with a lasting tan head. Aroma of sour cherries and chocolate. Taste is slightly sweet with a smooth palate. Overall a good beer that I will look for again.

473ml bottle at Mattís. Pours a clear amber with a tan head. Aroma and taste are corn with some smokey notes. Crap.

Pours a dark ruby colour with an off-white head. Aroma is of corn and caramel. The flavour is harsh and off. This isnít nice.

Tasting at Mattís, can
Amber color, poor head. Grain aroma, not good. But this beer achieves phenomenal results with the flavor, grains bag, caramel, a bit sour, skunky.
Seriously bad.

Dark brown-red colour. Not much head. Nothing but thin grains on the aroma. The taste is sort of this innocuous bland vaguely malty nonsense. Even by the standards of generic red ale, this is a waste of time.

500mL can, pours a dark red with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out sweet cereal malts, bready notes and a touch of sweet caramel. Flavour is quite nasty, with sickly sweet medicinal notes, vegetal notes, and bready malt. This is really terrible. What the fuck were they thinking? Disgusting.

Can from Loblaws. Clear amber body with a thin off-white head. Steady carbonation. No lacing. Aroma of brown sugar and stewed tea. Flavour of metal, caramel and wood. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Nice balance and drinkability.

Appearance: clear red-tinged deep amber with one fat finger of fine ivory head, good retention and patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: caramel malt, grassy and earthy hops, wood and light smoke. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, medium duration mildly bitter and lightly smoky finish. (3/5) Sorry, but I find it really hard to get excited about yet another middle-of-the road amber, distinguished only by the roasty malt tones coming through as slight smoke. Fair enough, that slight smokiness adds some depth, but itís hard to call it ďcomplexityĒ (and Iím not entirely sure itís deliberate). A reasonably well-executed but ultimately boring beer. (12/20)

Can, Ann Arbor, MI via Mulmur. Clear deep copper, no head. Active carbonation. Metallic caramel aroma. Bittersweet, almost creamy, then strong caramel molasses. Hops come through at the end.
