Taktik_MTL (1843), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada May 29, 2007 En fût. (Rating #1058) MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 30, 2007 Bottom Line:
Milky coriander and pale malt sweetness precede the lemony spiciness in this decent, and rather sweet Belgian Witbier.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A frail veil of foam hangs on to the hazy pale yellow.
-The nose is more compelling than the flavor profile, clearly building the beer’s actual spices into the yeast’s esters.
-A cereal return in the aftertaste makes it interesting, although some might say it doesn’t finish dry enough to really be quenching.
-Body is quite lean and drinkable.
-Spiciness is not as flavorful as the nose indicated, but still present.
-The yeast from Achouffe tends to add an olden, dusty character to the finish.
-The lemony fruitiness fits with the sweet maltiness.
On tap at the brewpub. willblake (1919), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA Jul 21, 2005 07.13.05 Tap at brewpub. Bright and clear golden, large white head fades to ring. Strong spiced aroma, corriander, lots of clove. Belgie-type wit yeast, fair citrus is old and orange rind-ish. Odd and I really don’t like it for the same reasons I don’t like the other abbey style wits. Very dry. DYCSoccer17 (1996), Davis, California, USA May 11, 2004 Growler. Aroma is very citrusy--orange peels and cleanser-like aroma. It’s quite pleasant though. Pour is a darker yellow with a nice fluffy white head with just the mildest haziness. I’m used to these being paler in color with more haziness. Start has notes of orange peels, which is then followed by some big hoppy bitterness. Finishes creamy and sweet with a bit of malts. Adequate carbonation. An inteesting take on a Wit...used to these being a bit more mellow. ChazyRPh (569), Chazy, New York, USA May 11, 2004 growler from Plattsburgh Brewery. Pours a clear blonde with a generous white head. Very strong aroma, smells like a Yankee Candle...banana, citrus, licorice. Huge licorice flavor to begin with, too much in my opinion. The middle cleans out and ends very sweet. Some more of the typical white beer flavors to end with. This needs a bit more re-tooling to be a good brew.
