3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Oct. 1, 2005. 12 oz. bottle. Very pleasantly surprised by this one. Didnít know this was an IPA when I tried it -- a bit darker than Iím used to seeing in the style. Great hop bite without the "oiliness" sometimes present in similar brews. Very curious to know what the ABV is on this one. An excellent session IPA; and Iím thrilled that itís being stocked by my local small-town grocery store here in Upstate NY.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a murky amber orange color with a wispy pale head. The pleasantly hoppy with sharp notes of pine, a bit of lemon, and a bit of maltiness that pokes its way through the hop notes. The beer is a mix of muddy malt notes (caramel, and toasted malt) and lots of hops. The hops are sharp and herbal, a bit of pine as well, with a nice bitterness throughout as well. The palate of this beer is quite full, almost approaching a strong ale in quality. The bitterness in the finish is quite biting and is a nice foil to the malt sweetness that is in this beer. This beer is fairly drinkable, but just seems to be lacking something that would make it great, I canít really place my finger on it though.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
draught. orange copper with a small whitish head. nice full on hoppy aroma and a clean bread yeastiness. well, I knew it was an IPA but I wasnít expecting it to be THIS hoppy. now I know and am quite satisfied. fresh leafy hops. soft balance but the hop ratio is obviously skewed in this one, though it still manages to be nice and flavourful. alcohol peeks itís way through in the middle and towards the end. pretty damn good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice dark copper body. Smally off-white, slightly tan creamy head. Leaves a sticky lacing on the glass.
Initial aroma was sugared and sharp perfumy hops, reminscent of SNCA. Later, wet sweet cement-like grapefruit pulp.
Mixture of grapefruit and perfumey hops, with a slight sweet caramel. Also medicinal grapefruit. Some "off-like" piney astringency in the burps. Becomes a bit bright with fruit as it warms.
Slightly watery, but still a decent palate with decent balance. To me, better as it warms, as it may have been borderline too cold when I started drinking it.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a nice foamy white head with very good retention. Aroma of citrus hops is very dominant. Taste is also dominated by the big citrus hops with a full creamy body. A bit too one-dimensional for my liking and I would have preferred some subtle sweetness or more malt presence. Not bad nonetheless and probably one of the best beer from this brewery.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Thick hazy caramel, hues of orange, moderate frothy off-white head, fairly attractive lacing.   Straight forward hop nose, very slight floral aspect.   Strong yet smooth bitterness, slightly agressive yet very palatable.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly moderate.   Lingering hop bitterness well beyond the finish.   Solid IPA, nothing fancy, but very enjoyable.   Thanks Dan!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: AUG 23, 2006 12 oz bottle-pours a tall light tan head. Color is deep copper. Aroma is hops-grapefruity. Taste is bitter grapefruit, aftertaste is a flatness and a little bite. Colder is better.

(Thanks to Jah Noth for hooking me up with this nice IPA) Copper/amber color with a rocky white head. Big citrusy aromas with some earthy tones. Nice bitter feel throughout. Some carmel and wood on the palate. Finishes with a bitter lemony edge. Quite nice. Thanks Dan!!!!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2005 Darkish amber, 1cm foam of off-white head. Earthy, minty and woody strong nose. Caramel and fruits mingle along the sweaty and citrusy hops. Fair amount of bitterness, lasting if not the most flavorful hops. Watery peaks enhance drinkability while floral edges ensures comfort and known territory. Good bodied, slightly creamy. Not worth a 3.9 in my book, but definitely a pleasant and dry IPA with a solid malt base and well distributed carbonation.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This one took me by complete surprise. Deep coppery orange, light tan creamy head with perfect lacing. A really nice nose here with soft citrus, pine and florals throughout, and a sweet toffee brittle tone emerging as it continued to warm. Flavor was hoppy up front with notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, light earth and pine, with again a soft toffee and caramel-like tone rounding this out late. Medium bodied, pillow soft carbonation, juicy, bittersweet finish. Last year it was the Smuttynose IPA that became my breakthrough new beer of the year. This year, the award might very well go to this one. A great session IPA that I wish was available in MD. Highly recommended...
