3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 30, 2007 Bottled:
Orange-y hops ignite a strong and lasting resinous, grassy bitterness...A hefty pale ale with seductive caramel malt girth and serious hop depth...Another one of those rich pints of American boldness...
On tap at the brewpub:
Hmmm...I seem to recall that the menu at the pub said it was 6.8%abv, which would be quite a change from the 5% we have listed here. Anyway, this proudly unfiltered strong Pale Ale/IPA hybrid presented lots of earthy hop goodness developing into orangey and resinous complexities. Great body with a touch of fruity caramel. Always a treat, although I still preferred the version brewed and bottled in Plattsburgh by a couple of points.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Mild orange citrus "C" hop aroma. Nice looking beer. Caramel coloured body with off-white head that lasts. Some light lace. Strong bitterness. A bit overbalanced towards the hops. Could use more malt character to support. Some orange citrus flavour noticeable also. Medium light body but slightly thin mouthfeel. On tap at TapNY festival.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at the brewpub. Just a bit darker than 46er, holds its creamy head well. Piney hoppiness, firm malt, and a bit of mustiness in the nose...thick, malty caramel and well-defined PNW hops throughout the flavor, fairly intense finishing bitterness, nice apricot presence.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled on tap at the Old Toad English Pub in Rochester, NY. Medium brown color with some orange hues. Nice fluffed head. Taste is good, rich, sweet hops that turn to a nice beer. Lots of pineapple and pinecones. Aftertaste drys a little, but is still refreshing. Excellent, give it a try.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 19, 2004 (Draught) I do not believe for a minute that what I had at the Glass Onion in Canton, NY, was the Lake Placid Amber as displayed on the tap and having read the reviews for that beer. The body was a deep amber and it had a medium, foamy white head. Nose was of piney hops. The strong pine hoppy flavour lasted for minutes on my palate. It was a Western experience in the North Country of NY! I am so incredibly impressed with this beer on draught. The slightly tart finish. What a pleasure - Great job, boys!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep amber coloured body with a large off-white 'microfroth' (stolen from the land of espresso) head. Aroma purely of citrus and piney hops. Medium-bodied; Strong hoppy flavour which lasts long in the palate! Aftertaste shows a lot of the hop character while still bringing some malt character through. Overall, a nice heavily-hopped beer! I sampled this on draught at MacGregor's in Rochester, New York on 21-January-2004.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a hazy copper from the growler with a medium white head that hangs around a little. Nice lacing. Wonderful aroma, mostly floral hops, with some honey and grapefruit/citrus. Delicious beer, nice start with some maltiness and mild hop flavor, bursting with hops in the middle. Finishing with a tantalizing bitter that begs you to take another sip. Another sip I will take, followed by another and another. I like this a lot.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
I had this beer on tap. It is a deep amber, difficult to see through. The smell is of grapefruit hops. The taste is initially of malt then nice hop balance. Not a pale ale- good for an IPA.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Superior grapefruit/citrus/hoppy aroma. Copper body, quickly fading head. The flavor is incredibly full and biting with hops. Dry and well-balanced. Chewy, bready and yeasty.
