This is our version of a milk stout, originally named Fresh Powder Milk Stout. A milk stout is simply a stout brewed with an addition of Lactose, a non-fermentable milk sugar, used to create sweetness and a fuller body and mouthfeel in the beer. This is the sweetest stout that we brew, not only because of the addition of lactose, but because of the low hop bitterness, and higher residual sugar content. It is very full bodied beer, often perceived as thick and creamy.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Very dark brown, opaque, with a decent beige head and small bubbles. Roasty aroma, with some fresh yogurt, dark chocolate and coffee. Roasted malt flavor, light tartness, faint cream and medium bitterness. Quite light and dry, lactose is present only somewhat in the aftertaste. OK.

Pours black into a shaker. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes leaving spider lacing to coat surface. Sour soy aromas. Medium bodied and dry with sweet chocolate milk and soy.

[5323-20130430] Tap. Light floral roasted chocolate malt aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy light brown head. Roasted malt grain flavour has a lingering wood burnt finish. Good. (7/3/7/3/13) 3.3

Growler. Pours black with a moderate light brown head that lasted through the first third of the glass and left light lace. Pleasant aroma of chocolate along with some roasted malt. The flavor is predominantly roasted malt with a bit of coffee and some mild tobacco. Very mild bitterness at the finish. Not really as well rounded or as sweet as I was expecting.

Coffee black pour of course with a minimal tan head. Burnt malt aromas and some milk chocolaty goodness. Nothing astounding about this one but it’s solid nonetheless.

Rich, very dark brown coloured body, around 90% opaque with a thick three centimetre tall brown head. Aroma of rich roasted malt, oatmeal, vanilla, oak and some light sugars - strong and a nice relatively light nose. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt, milk, nuts, earth, caramel and a hint of licorice bitterness. Aftertaste shows a nice flavour of milk, vanilla, oak, brown sugar and some minor alcohol flavours. Overall, a good beer for the season - deep malt and richness, but a relatively mild finish and a good milky, sweet taste. Definitely worth trying if you can find this or if you like stouts - this is a good example of a sweet beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 02-November-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 23-January-2014.

A roasty aroma gives way to a strange lack of roastiness in the flavor. This is an easy drinking stout and that isn’t a bad thing. No way I’d mind having a bottle of this handed to me on a cool day.

pours a dark black with a good dark brown head. This beer has a good dark roaster coffee with a lot of dark fruit flavors and ends bitter.
