spkldhenlvr24 (446), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 5, 2009 12oz. bottle from sixer. I can’t believe I haven’t rated any Lake Placid beers! Pours a deep cloudy reddish brown body with a big beige head. Good lacing. Weaker aroma of spice, caramel malt, sugar and some light hoppy scents. Flavor is also caramel maltiness, spice. Medium bodied. Smooth easy drinking. This could be a really great beer if it had some bolder outstanding flavors. Otherwise a good beer from NY. checkmatei1 (629), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bottle: Poured a dark brown color with a frothy head. The aroma was sugary malts, roasted nuts, and a touch of coffee. The flavor was bitter coffee, a touch of hops, and sweet toffee. Overall, sit UBU sit...good dog and a better beer. mjs (1445), Helsinki, Finland Oct 30, 2009 (Draught) Poured dark brown and almost clear with medium sized and white head. Aroma was of malts and liquorice. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Tasted of malts, liquorice, sweetness, hops, lightly fruity and bitter. Sweet, malty and lightly bitter aftertaste. rampmaster (314), Alden, New York, USA Oct 21, 2009 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date on the bottle.
Appearance: Its body has a dark brown color with deep crimson highlights. The head on top was about one and half fingers thick, light tan in color and made very nice lacing on the glass.
Smell: Sweet caramel and brown sugary notes pop out in the nose along with some toasted malt and mild earthy/leafy hops.
Taste/Mouth: It has a base of roasted and toasted bready malt flavors. There is plenty of sweetness up front with notes of brown sugar, sweet/buttery bread, diacetyl and dark caramel. The 7%abv adds only a slight touch of character and is mostly well hidden. The middle sees the addition of dried leafy and earth hop flavor along with some bitterness for balance. The finish has a nice blend of sweet malt, a hint of bitter dark chocolate and hops. It has a smooth, slightly slick texture with soft yet active carbonation in a solid medium to full body.
Notes: I would like to thank my good friend Don for telling me about the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery and for recommending the Ubu Ale. I really enjoyed very interesting and complex ale.
WVHouseofBeer (332), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Oct 12, 2009 Arrowhead Market, Deep Creak, MD - This brew surprised me, as I had always heard of the real beer from the Adirondacks. Ubu Ale has a nice coffee and roasted malt nose with a big, thick, body and a dark chocolate, alcohol, and a pick of dark fruits taste. This beer reminds me more of a Porter than a ESA, but it is good none the less. Very tasty. puboflyons (587), New Hampshire, USA Oct 4, 2009 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle marked 2099-1253. It pours an inviting brown with a glistening ruby red hue meandering through the glass. A long lasting beige head. The aroma is nutty and sweet. The taste is a cross between a Bitter and English Strong Ale with a dash of sweet malts, caramel, toffee, and a tickle of hops at the end. Very nice. It deserves the recognition it has gotten. thornecb (1734), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Sep 26, 2009 Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Beige head with excellent retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Toasty malt aromas. Crisp and pleasantly astringent with spicy hops and caramel malt. Lasting slightly smoked finish. Changed (161), Ithaca, New York, USA Sep 25, 2009 12 oz. Pours black with dark red highlights. Small-ish white head. Smells like London. Tastes like London. Really like the complexity of flavors. More depth than most. I’m really surprised that this beer came from a semi-local brewery. Will enjoy again!
