9/21/11. 12oz bottle. Dark brown, almost black pour, some ruby under the light, with a small tan head that fades fast and doesn’t lace at all. Big fruity aroma with dark fruits, molasses, and a bit of chocolate. Sweet flavor with a bit of tart fruits, roast, and earthiness. Not bad!

Nice dark brown pour under a thin tan head; medium carbonation, good mellow flavor, sweet but not too sticky. A nice surprise!

[Bottle] Pours a chestnut brown color with a light brown cap of head. Sweet toffee, molasses, milk chocolate and brown sugar in the aroma. The taste is sticky and sweet. Mild roast, sweet dark fruits, fig and lots of caramel in the taste. Thick mouthfeel. Ends a little on the sweet side. Pretty good.

Beauty of a pour into a regular pint glass, with a light tan head standing up a bit over the top of the glass. Color is deep brown, almost black. Aroma is roasty, malty, with notes even bordering on rich, roasted meat dishes. Flavor is pretty complex, ranging from burnt toast to alcohol to dry malt to dark fruits. Finish is pretty long. Palate is medium to sticky-thick. Good beer; would love to pair with a hearty beef stew or meat and potatoes type dish.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Very dark brown color with a medium beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, some toastiness, fruits, chocolaty and nutty notes and a bit of hops and alcohol. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, nuts and fruits. Finishes with bitter and slightly spicy hops and a bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied with a somewhat thick and rounded feel. Not bad.

Pours ridiculously brown with an inch of khaki foam from the bottle. A bit of maltiness on the nose. Kind of a thin mouthfeel. A bit more malt comes through on the tongue. Finishes fairly dry.

Thought I had already rated this. 12 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a dark copper color with a medium frothy tan head. Good head retention and decent lacing. Aroma of toffee, citrus and nutty notes. The taste is toffee, earthy notes, chocolate and a bitter almost metallic finish. Medium bodied. Good beer.

Big bready, caramel malt jumps out at the first sip. Toffee and maybe light molasses with burnt wood and some light nut and chocolate character. Maybe some light plum and peat on the finish.
