Smallish head leaves minimal lacing. Mostly malts on the nose with some earthiness in there. This tastes like an amped up nut brown ale. It reminded me of Samuel Smiths nut brown, which I once enjoyed frequently, but can’t seem to find anymore. This one is pretty decent. HopheadHans (757), Bay Area, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours with a dark red color. Very nice aromas of malts and some nuttiness. Flavors of malts, some hops and some metallic notes in the finish. Quite enjoyable beer. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 23, 2008 12oz from a beer club. Not quite as solid as their IPA but another enjoyable entry from this brewer. Amber pour with a nice malty aroma, the flavor is rich, with hints of nuts and a bit of hop spice on the back end. Nice beer. Dansting (222), Overland Park, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Bottle. Poured a cloudy dark amber color with a thick beige head. Plenty of lacing. Aroma is very nutty with a hint of fruit. Mouthfeel is a little too fizzy for what I like my strong ales to be. Flavor is ok. Mainly roasted malts, and more bitter than I’d expected. This was decent, but nothing I’d go out of my way to get. posikyle (165), Alabama, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Probably one of my favorite beers. Pours a deep brown/red color, head dissipates rather quickly. Big malt aroma/flavor with a hint of caramel and a nicely balanced hoppy finish. Very smooth, easily drinkable. dutch23mp (171), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Head seems to disappear too quickly for my liking but a fine brew besides this, great balance robust flavors. Taste of Carmel just the right blend of hops. BOM club selection the best of the 4 I have received this month. hoplover406 (204), Crofton, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Tap @ Lake Placid Brewpub. First of all I should say that this fine brew is made in such a wonderfull town. It is a very fitting "flagship" beer to represent this olympic town on Mirror Lake. It pours dark, mahogany brown with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma with a nutty, semi-sweet taste. If you’re ever in this out of the way locale you should make it a priority to visit their brewpub and settle in for a pint or two. oteyj (822), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Extremely dark pour with nice roasty notes present in the aroma. Very malty for its style, but very smooth and drinkable. Flavor was predominantly malt and caramel with a hint of hop bite. Hop content was slightly lacking, but still had an okay presence. I would have this again, for it is very tastey.
