3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Hop Devil Grill. Deep ruby colour, thick creamy white head. Aroma is malty and slightly toasty. Light cherry fruitiness on the nose. Warming brings out a touch of bubble gum as well. Toffee and caramel malt with a soft earthiness. A bit of molasses and earthiness. Simple, but tasty winter warmer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2007 This dark ale has a malty character with very little hops apparent. Little to no head but somewhat sweet and vinuous. Hints of chocolate and wildberries or possibly cherry flavors. Very unique in taste and flavor.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep amber/Maroon appearance. Very little head and carbonation. Initial taste pleasant and heavy maltiness and then an almost Belgian Gueze like sourness emerges. Extremely unique and wonderful taste.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours quite dark with a brown/red hue. The head is small and fades quickly. The nose is pretty tame, but some dark, vinous, fruit notes can be detected. The flavor delivers a noticeable roasty quality with a definite aspect of dark chocolate. Buried notes of bourbon and toffee sneak around in the finish. Pretty decent stuff.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep brown appearance; small tan head and little lacing. Sweet malt aroma with ripe, dark fruit esters. Earthy, moderately sweet taste; faint hint of dark chocolate, some hops (especially as it finishes). Medium bodied, modestly carbonated mouthfeel with a lingering aftertaste.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Muddy dark reddish/brown color--like dried blood-- with a quickly diminishing tan head. Aroma of molasses, plum, leather. Dark rich malty flavor with some burnt coffee, even unsweetened cocoa notes. Slightly sour on the finish, like underripe berries, with a mildly bitter and fleeting hop aftertaste. Palate is medium, but this one has a juice-like feel in the mouth. Will take the Frostbite easily over this, but overall fairly interesting if not especially mind-blowing brew.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(draft @ Monty’s Korner - Rochester, NY) Dark brown in color with a nice and thick tan head. Aroma is malty and sweet with not much else to it. Flavor begins with a very sweet and malty flavor followed by a dark and malty middle and some sweetness and other fruit flavors mixed in. Nice and slightly wine-like and bitter finish with a lingering aftertaste. Kind of chewy and really nice.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
From the bottle, pours a very dark color with a bit of red peaking through. Not much of a head or lacing. Smells initially of dark berries, and some sweet malts. Really not much in the nose. It’s got a very unique taste that is hard to describe. Initially of dark berries, like some raspberries and maybe blueberrries, and a bit like loganberry. As it warms, there’s a bit more of a sweet malty flavor, but the fruitfulness remains. I like this beer, and the higher alcohol helps too.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I think this one is courtesy of luiss, but if not him them some other fine chap that participated in the Mystery Beer Swap trade. Aroma has some dark malts and sweet candied fruit notes. Body is a dark ruddy brown and holds a firm and lasting pinky sized tan head. Tart fruit notes in the fore...apple, cherry..which meld into sweet dark malt flavors. Almost approaches sour at times, but in a good way....a little bit like New Glarus’ Cherry Stout though much less concentrated and without the overy cherry flavors. The finish is a mix of the previous flavors but imparts a more defined tartness that defines the flavor of the whole beer. Very nice suprise.
