12 oz. bottle. Pours a very deep red with a foamy light tan head. Nice malty aroma with some light flowery hops. Nice sweet malt flavor with some hops bitterness. The 7% ABV is well hidden. Very enjoyable beer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
on tap at greylodge - dark dark red color - like burnt copper. aroma is all malt - no discernable hop aroma. flavor is big and thick, but not syrupy or sickly sweet. mostly malt with caramel flavors. enjoyable, but one was enough for me.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Strange name. Different label on the bottle I had. Heavy indeed, and an flavor teetering off vanilla. Still a rich experience, but don’t have too many or they’ll go to yer head.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Pours into pint glass with an average head, fizzy and off-white. Body is clear and brownish ruby colored. Aroma is pleasing with some floral hop notes. The flavor is good malty with a decent hop finish. Largest problem is the mouthfeel for me, kind of fizzy and thin. Surprised to learn this is 7%, wouldn’t have guessed over 5%. In all a decent beer but isn’t something to expend alot of effort to track down.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had at the Rohrbach’s summer beer fest. Looking at this one I was preparing to be wowed. Dark red color, decent tan head. Hoppy body even considering the sweet maltiness. Unfortunately it was the final beer I sampled - will have to try again when the taste buds are fresher.

Robe brune auburn claire surmontée d’une mousse légère. Arômes de houblon amertume et de malt caramélisé. Saveurs de malt, de caramel, de café. Belle profondeur des arômes et saveurs. Long arrière-goût.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep amber hazy body over a creamy head; sweet and spicy aroma; rich and malty front end with toasted english muffin notes; somewhat dry finish, and pretty well balanced; pretty nice, overall.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
HBF 2005. I was surprised by how much I liked this beer. Im usually not into english strong ales, but this one was really good. Deep amber/mahagony with a slight lasting light beige head. Aroma is loaded with sweet caramel malts and balanced by a nice herbal/earthy hop presence. SOme fruity hints as well. Flavor is toffee, crystal malts, and some fruit with a good hop balance. Slightly bitter finish balances some of the sweetness. Very nice.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
this one’s like a lite version of a fuller’s 1845. well, sorta. the color is deep chestnut/midnight ruby, and slightly murky. the head is tall foamy tan but goes quickly. the aroma is earthy bitter malt, a little bitter chocolate and roasted chestnut skins too. flavor is also earthy malt, roasted and bitter too. bitter hops in the finish, yes like root vegetables.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUN 2, 2005 Bottle from Premier - thanks to rudolf. Very nice dark ruby-brown colour with a small tan head. Aroma is a little subdued at first, but starts to develop a nice roasty/malty character with some smoky notes. Very well rounded flavour, with brown sugar, roasted nuts and cocoa, evenly balanced by an expertly hopped finish. So smoothly balanced and easy to drink that I can’t believe it’s 7%. Well done.
