3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (12oz). Poured dark clear mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, tart berry fruit and a hint of mustiness. Fair hit of alcohol off the top, then the sweet light roast malt enters, balanced by fruit, average somewhat bitter linger. Very pleasant - average body, a little flat but I guess that’s the style.

An unclear amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, and hints of wheat. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, wood, and fruit.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2006 Oct. 3, 2005 - 12 oz. bottle. A hearty Autumn/Winter brew. Sweet flavor is of red wine, smoke, fruit -- balanced nicely by a strong hop presence. The higher ABV is noticeable, but warms without overpowering the brew. Will be having this one again over the Winter, I’m sure.
Re-rate on Dec. 29, 2006: Bumped up the aroma score from "4" to "7". This is definitely more enjoyable in a Trappist glass.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
pours amber/brown with a small ring of white fine bubbles around the rim of the glass. Smells breaddy with some decent rose and grapefruit aromas popping through. Taste is on the nutty side like a brown ale with some mild peppery notes. A bit thin on the mouthfeel for an english strong ale, but very drinkable. A bit bland on the finish. This one has potential, but is not as balanced as other English Strongs I’ve had.
