Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a medium off-white/light brown head. Aroma is toasty malt and a lot of raisin, smells Belgian. Taste is mild sweet, medium bitter, with a good amount of alcohol for 7%. Finish is dry. Medium bodied, lively carbonation. An ok beer.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
From bottle. Malty raisin-plum sweet nose, pleasant but not overly complex. Biscuit, mild hop notes. Dark coppery brown clear with medium foamy-creamy off-white to light tan lacing head. Medium watery body with medium to high carbonation and carbonic fizzy burn. Starts medium sweet with plum, raisin, biscuit, and light carbonic acidity. Mild neutral fruity notes with mild bitterness in the finish. Red wine-like tang, close to some soy sauce, or ’soured’ sugar. Mild dry-tang after with a bit of sweetness and hop bitterness.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle acquired from Pessie and served in a Bells Tulip: Pours a deep garnet and murky brown hue with a big fluffy off-white head and left very good lacework upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of crystal toffee malts, pale chocolate, Golden Promise base malt, some EKG and Northdown hops with a light fruity and leathery ester. A bit dusty and cardboardy but that was expected since it was cellared by Joe. When the beer works those seemingly off-notes actually work within the style...
then the taste, actually drier than expected, not as sweet as I would have thought. Light kiss of English bitterness and prevailing cardboard with some oxidization. The issue here is a complete and utter lack of depth that are found in best of genre. Minimal fruity notes, minimal darker malt tones, and really just a lack of earthy "punch". The mouth feel is equally disappointing, much thinner than is expected. This beer appears over attenuated if you ask me. Dry ashy metallic finish. Worse yet the thinness makes the alcohol more noticeable. This beer started with so much promise but flopped when it mattered more, on the palate. I like a nice British styled strong ale as much as anyone so this really made me sad.
