Malty dark ale. Strong alcohol and chocolate notes are completely hidden in it’s complex and easy to drink taste.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 rampmaster (642) - Alden, New York, USA - OCT 21, 2009
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date on the bottle.
Appearance: Its body has a dark brown color with deep crimson highlights. The head on top was about one and half fingers thick, light tan in color and made very nice lacing on the glass.
Smell: Sweet caramel and brown sugary notes pop out in the nose along with some toasted malt and mild earthy/leafy hops.
Taste/Mouth: It has a base of roasted and toasted bready malt flavors. There is plenty of sweetness up front with notes of brown sugar, sweet/buttery bread, diacetyl and dark caramel. The 7%abv adds only a slight touch of character and is mostly well hidden. The middle sees the addition of dried leafy and earth hop flavor along with some bitterness for balance. The finish has a nice blend of sweet malt, a hint of bitter dark chocolate and hops. It has a smooth, slightly slick texture with soft yet active carbonation in a solid medium to full body.
Notes: I would like to thank my good friend Don for telling me about the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery and for recommending the Ubu Ale. I really enjoyed very interesting and complex ale.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2004 Pours a nice dark mahogany color with a beige head that stays throughout. Aroma is moderate, with some fruits bleded in there, not sure what it is. The flavor is awesome, with a nice burst that mildly tapers down into an extremely smooth finish that makes you want to keep drinking the beer. This stuff is awesome!
Rerate: some chocolate malts in the nose. Start is somewhat hoppy smoothing down into a great malty finish with some chocolate taste shining through. Hides 7% well. Even better then second time. I highly recommend this stuff to anyone that hasnt had it before. If you want to trade, let me know.

Pours a mahogany color with minimal head, probably due to bartender error (had on draft). Nutty aroma, some maltiness and a little yeast. Smooth, chocolaty and remnants of roasted hazelnuts. A very very nice brew. Solid finish, no wonder it was a favorite of a former president...

Nice beer! Bottle from Glenville beverage. Stored and served at 50 degrees. Dark brown with a nice tan head that leaves a very nice lace around my glass. no real smell of hops, as it should be, flavor is medum in character. It is a little bitter but a little sticky sweet too. This beer is perfect for it’s style. Go find one. Or ask me, Ill trade you something. You should have one.

Bottle after bottle. One of the more unique ales I have ever had. Pours a deep red in color with a foamy beighe head. The flavoor is of fresh fruits. I would almost say juicy. Finishes strong with a big malty alcohol flavor. Superb.

The Ubu is arguably Lake Placid’s finest offering. It’s quite dark and malty. The taste has a slight hint of smokiness and coffee like a porter, but retains the touch of bitterness that an ale of this nature should have. Finishes very crisply, refreshes the palate, the body, and the mind. A fine fine brew.

Bottle; dark brown with red hues and medium brown head; aroma-coffee, caramel, floral, mildly roasty; taste-medium sweetness, medium bitterness, full body, creamy, average carbonation, bitter, long finish. This is great
