12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with an off white head and light lacing. The aroma was dominated by lightly roasted malts and bready yeast with hints of roasted coffee. Mostly a caramel malt flavor with a noticable grainess and a mild underlying of dark fruit. Finishes dry, with a weak hop flavor and bitterness.

Bottle. Wow. Excellent. Pours a dark brown. Modest head. Nice roasted aroma. Complex palate. Nutty, hoppy. Long delicious finish. Highly recommended. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The smell instantly shows the alcohol and doesn’t give the impression of the malt and certainly not the bitterness underneath. It’s a good overall effect, but the aroma definitely isn’t a strong point. A bit unbalanced but the hopping saves the day.

Bottle; poured a very dark auburn brown color with a khaki, frothy head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, must, and some sweetness. Flavor had more fruitiness, of the overripe variety, and some sweetness. A touch more roasted. Did taste English, but to me was not overly great. Surprisingly a bit boozy.

On tap at the pub.The color is a dark brown with a beige head. The aroma is of roasted malt ,barleyand yeast. The taste is of barley, malt with some sweetness to it and bitterness at the same time.I did not find it that strong but good.

12oz bottle from Wegman’s, Buffalo, NY. Chestnut brown with a thin beige head; spicy malt aroma; some purple fruit from the roasted malts, and some powdered chocolate as well; and then a dry, nutty, finish. Not really a recognisable English style, but rather pleasant.

out of bottle this was a dissappointment. Little malt flavor even when served at correct temperature. Very thin. Dark red color not matched by depth of flavor. On tap my recollections of this brew more positive.

Draft at the Grey Lodge in Philly. Ok beer. Rather boring. Had a nice dark malt flavor to it. Finished a little on the bitter side.
