BOTM: This pours surprisingly dark for an ale - a deep rich mahogany. The head is thin and soapy looking with large bubbles. The aroma consists mainly of toffee and malt. This has a surprisingly heavy but smooth body with just a faint touch of carbonation. There is a cerealy aftertaste that is quite pleasant. This is a very good beer for cold nights but not something I would drink on a hot summer day. I WILL be buying this again.

12oz bottle thanks to Secret Santa. A dark walnut pour with a light haze. Nutty, malty, molasses like aroma. Very pleasing. The flavor is very good with burnt caramel, molasses, and a light chocolate sweetness. Just a hint of alcohol thrown in there as well. A really fine tasting brew. Full bodied and overall very interesting.

A dark raisin colored brew with good carbonation and frothy tan head. Flavor is complex malty, nut and coffee like notes. Well balanced with the hops. Mouthfeel is very smooth and body is on the heavy side, almost like a porter. Finishes a bit bitter. Not bad at all.

Beautiful dark brown color. Head is thin but frothy. Not a lot on the nose, but mouthfilling flavor of roasted malts. Traditional caramel and coffee notes with a plush palate. Finishes with mouth watering bitternesss. Terrific balance...a standout for sure among a pretty average crop of beers I have tried in NY so far (brooklyn and ommegang notwithstand

12oz bottle from beer club. Pours deep red with medium-sized tan head. Aroma is caramel malts and a bit of toffee. Powerful malty flavor with just a touch of bitterness to balance in the finish. I enjoyed this.

Bottle. Woody toffee malt aroma. Chestnut with small head. Oak, light toffee malt and moderately bitter dry hay hops flavor. Tasty.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2013 12 ounce bottle from Beer Of The (Every Other) Month Club. Dark brown/ruby hue, medium tan head, strong malty nose with noticeable alcohol, fine firm bittersweet flavor with solid malt backbone and some fruit notes, very well balanced. Iíve heard stories of how good this beer is and was glad to finally try it. One of the very best beers Iíve ever received from a beer-by-mail/UPS club. Tasted on February 26, 2013.

poured a deep brownish-amber color with a tan head. Aroma was a mix of oak, coffee, malts, and alcohol. Flavour was mainly hops with a sweetness to it. The alocohol was present.
