Commercial Description:
Our flagship beer, this English Strong Ale has developed an almost cult-like following in the Adirondacks and greater Northeast. Deep garnet red in color, Ubu weighs in at 7% alcohol by volume (ABV) but is known for its fantastic taste. Ubu Ale has received two people’s choice awards at the Saratoga BrewFest and was chosen one of the top 365 beers in the world by the Beer-A-Day calendar.

Bottle: Deep red pour with a filmy head to it. Aroma of coffee beans dark chocolate and a hint of alcohol. A very smooth drink with subtle hints of chocolate and I believe caramel. BOM.

Dark brown pour with flashes of red, small head but nice lacing. Very rich nutty aroma, like a mix of pecans and walnuts. Flavor is very light sweetness with perfect balancing hops. Very nice.

Bottle, from Jon. Aroma of caramel malt, hops, baking soda. Initial flavor is malty sweet and woody, with caramel, brown sugar, and a touch of dark fruit. Finish is dry and a bit astringent, with stealthy bittering flavors creeping in. Maybe it was just me, but I could have sworn a slight metallic flavor lingering in the finish as well. Certainly not the rich finish I desired based on the initial (tasty) flavors. The mouthfeel of this brew is average, leaning a bit thin. So-so overall, but a nice story of a Labrador adds some character to this beer.

Draft at the Buffalo Brewfest. Pours deep nut brown with an off white head, Floral hop and caramel aroma. Smooth body. Flavor is lightly hopps, with floral and grassy notes, as well as a bit of caramel. Nice.

On tap at the Empire Brewfest in Syracuse. Great malted aroma, something I can’t really place my finger on, almost an vegetable flavor. Very thick tasting and the alcohol is present. A solid beer that I would buy again. They also gave me a cool sticker of it

12oz bottle thanks to Secret Santa. A dark walnut pour with a light haze. Nutty, malty, molasses like aroma. Very pleasing. The flavor is very good with burnt caramel, molasses, and a light chocolate sweetness. Just a hint of alcohol thrown in there as well. A really fine tasting brew. Full bodied and overall very interesting.
