WillieV (165), Maryland, USA Apr 7, 2008 Bottle: Deep red pour with a filmy head to it. Aroma of coffee beans dark chocolate and a hint of alcohol. A very smooth drink with subtle hints of chocolate and I believe caramel. BOM.
RCL (1084), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Oct 12, 2008 Dark brown pour with flashes of red, small head but nice lacing. Very rich nutty aroma, like a mix of pecans and walnuts. Flavor is very light sweetness with perfect balancing hops. Very nice. elihapa (318), Connecticut, USA Sep 21, 2008 Bottle, from Jon. Aroma of caramel malt, hops, baking soda. Initial flavor is malty sweet and woody, with caramel, brown sugar, and a touch of dark fruit. Finish is dry and a bit astringent, with stealthy bittering flavors creeping in. Maybe it was just me, but I could have sworn a slight metallic flavor lingering in the finish as well. Certainly not the rich finish I desired based on the initial (tasty) flavors. The mouthfeel of this brew is average, leaning a bit thin. So-so overall, but a nice story of a Labrador adds some character to this beer. blipp (826), Grand Island, New York, USA Aug 23, 2008 Draft at the Buffalo Brewfest. Pours deep nut brown with an off white head, Floral hop and caramel aroma. Smooth body. Flavor is lightly hopps, with floral and grassy notes, as well as a bit of caramel. Nice. Haslinger (552), Syracuse, New York, USA Jul 29, 2008 On tap at the Empire Brewfest in Syracuse. Great malted aroma, something I can’t really place my finger on, almost an vegetable flavor. Very thick tasting and the alcohol is present. A solid beer that I would buy again. Nutty, malty, molasses like aroma. Very pleasing. The flavor is very good with burnt caramel, molasses, and a light chocolate sweetness. Just a hint of alcohol thrown in there as well. A really fine tasting brew. Full bodied and overall very interesting.
