Bottle from Guerde - thanks man! Pours very dark brown/amber with a creamy off-beige head. Aroma seems woody. And smoky. Full bodied, almost. Flavor is woody, smoky, lightly brown sugar. Its near dry. It finishes smoky and a bit bitter. A little chocolate after a long time.

Bottle @ home via Secret Krampus courtesy toss from Andy. Mahogany pour with a short lived khaki head. This smells like Red Man chewing tobacco. Smoke, caramel, band aids, and candied orange peel. W@? Tastes of tobacco, beef jerky, smoke, and plastic. This is gross. According to vacax: "the lake may be superior, but this beer is a fucking piece of shit."

Bottle... Dark, clear mahogany ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Fruity, vinous nose with lots of dates and port. Dark fruit flavor with adequate bitterness. A touch boozy. Full-bodied and oily with soft carbonation. Pleasantly bitter, grassy finish.

Ratebeer rating # 3,100. 12oz bottle acquired in trade with footbalm (thanks!). Poured a deep and dark mahogany color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of toasted nuts, earthy, caramel, light chocolate, light smoke and dark fruits. Tastes of toasted nuts, caramel, some dark fruits, and light chocolate. Alcohol content well hidden. Nice lacing left on the glass.

Thanks to Nexxus for this one. Pours burgundy with a nice head. Aroma of malt, cabernet, spice, toffee, and malt. Tastes malty, fruity, with nice sweetness. Finishes hoppy, fruity, with more cabernet. Very complex, with well hidden alcohol.

Pours a murky dark brown with a thin lacy off-white head. Sweet caramel malty aroma has a nice piney hop balance. Body starts with a nice malty caramel and butterscotch flavor with nice hop presence and a sweet toffee finish that hides the alcohol well. Nice subtle complexity throughout and well-balanced. An enjoyable barleywine.

Thanks to Bob for the bottle! Poured fiery medium amber with a short, sticky beige head. The aroma picked up sweet, aged caramel and dark fruits with vanilla and peppery alcohol accents.. a little green, raw alcohol detracted from my enjoyment a touch in the back.. still sweet and enjoyable. The flavor lost a couple steps from the nose.. sticky sweet caramel and redder fruits at the core, with a mess of oxidation, spent hops, and peppery alcohol laced throughout.. tacky, sweet finish and some belly warmth. Heavier-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. not a great feel through the mouth.. aiight overall, but not a top notch barley wine.

Hand written twist-off bottle 2008 vintage. It pours a dark brown with a big, creamy tan head. Nice lacing. The smell is dark and fruity. It is really nice. It is one of the better smelling BWs out there. The flavor is pretty good. A classic barleywine. Not overly alcoholic, just smooth and malty with some fruits, light hops and a lot of malt. Pretty good.
