A variety of dark roasted malts, oatmeal, and our own imported English ale yeast creates a smooth almost-black beer with chocolate overtones and a roasty flavor.

This looks the part, deep and dark with a tan head that laces nicely. Nose is too damn subtle, but whatís there is good, grains, metallic, like a brown ale really, whereís the oatmeal? Taste: again, subtle... you have to do a bit of thinking to gather anything worth noting... itís like a dark, oat-dashed New Castle, not very impressive. The feel is decent, milky and an appropriate level of carbonation, donít expect anything spectacular but it works. Overall, average, thatís about it.

This didnít really work for me at all. A really nice chocolately nose, but the flavor was sour with an overly carbonated body--almost like a bad bottle, I donít know.

Probably not the first time I have drank this beer. I spent one year in Superior/Duluth. Very good, glad to have it again.

Bottle. Pours near black with a deep brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma has a nice sweet milk chocolate note with some roasted malts and a hint of coffee. Flavor has a really nice smooth milk chocolate note throughout with some dark grains and oak coming out.

Near black with a dark tan head. Malty, caramel aroma. Up until now i was excited to try this one. The flavor started dry, but changed to a smokey plastic-like aftertaste that was unexpected. Lighter side of medium body.

Bottled sample. Near black in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of chocolate covered raisins and a bit of caramel. Flavours are of dark chocolate, coffee, chalky + other minerals, mild smoke and even fainter sweetness. Medium bodied. Simplistic aroma, but loads of character, complexity, and balance in the mouth. Good stuff.

Bottle. Pour is watery black brown with a kahki head that dissipate to a ring and is calm. Aroma is soy coco and hints of coffee along with some cereal. Taste cereal and coco with subtle coffee and malt. Palate is somewhat watery with a dry finish. Decent beer for the money.

Tripplebrew (777) - Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA - APR 16, 2010
Pours an opaque nutty/chocolate brown with very little head, just a tiny bit of tan froth. Aroma is light, notes of nuts. Flavor is earthy with notes of grassy hops, toasted malts and mild cocoa notes, definitely nutty tones.

Pours deep brown with off white head, aroma is some charred and burnt malt with some coffee notes. Taste up front is some coffee, roasted malt, and a bit of acidity. Not bad, but pretty watery and some off tastes.

Go to try a bottle of this thanks to, "AKFaust". Colour... garnet-brown with no head. Nose... musty grain. Palate... Vegetal! That sums it up!
