3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ChillCoat (1030) - Concord, California, USA - OCT 1, 2006
Bottle. Brown, porterish in appearance. Reddish hue, tan head. Chocolate and malty appearance. Malt, chocolate. So much like a porter!, maybe the bottle is mislabeled. Malty, burnt sugar, Toffee and caramel, actually nice.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BückDich (5467) - McCall, Idaho, USA - MAY 11, 2006
Bottle: Mahogany ruby color, thin head, good lacing. Nose of light hops, creamy malts, light roast. The flavor is more roasty than caramelly, nice maltiness. The finish is chewy and tame. A fine drinking beer, very to style.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 bb (5888) - Alamo, California, USA - APR 16, 2006
Bottle. Ruby colored beer with a light beige head. Roasted malt and chocolate/coffee aroma. Nutty malt flavor with some bitterness to balance. A lot of malt flavors - nutty, roasty, coffee, caramel...
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 hershiser2 (1028) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - JUN 12, 2004
Brownish red in appearance, with a small head. I didn’t detect much of an aroma. Taste is coppery nut, with some decent malts in there. Overall, not so great, but at least I gave it a shot.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 grant (842) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - FEB 11, 2004
UPDATED: FEB 12, 2004 One of the most volatile and unique aromas on a milder ale I've ever had. Hopscotch hit the nail on the head re: the aroma...caramel corn all the way. Flavor is indeed buttery and luscious. Some tangerine and dragonfruit capped with a crystalline sweetness. Warm, earthy bitterness from the hops. Finishes clean and warm. This is great stuff!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 y0cola (361) - fremont, California, USA - JAN 3, 2004
Malty, sweet roasty smokey and bitter. Fresh malty aroma. The best amber i've had so far.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JFGrind (1715) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 8, 2003
Deep caramel color and a roasted malted flavor. Better than what I expected it to taste like.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Lubiere (8243) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 17, 2003
Nice thick off-white head which persists, nice nose of malt, and nuts with some citrus. Clean red amber color. Nice barrel and nutty taste in mouth with a nice smooth bitterenss at the end.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 beerbumble (42) - Reno, Nevada, USA - FEB 16, 2003
Not much aroma, but great taste. The best part is the creamy smooth taste as the beer goes down.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 hopscotch (8215) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 16, 2002
UPDATED: OCT 5, 2009 Bottle... This beer rocks! ... Known to the locals as Tahoe Red, this beautiful mohagony ale smells like caramel corn at a county fair; rich and buttery. The flavor is all about malt. Perfectly hopped so that there is no sweetness married to the rich, nutty, caramel flavor. Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and lively carbonation. The finish is perfectly clean and crisp. Not bitter, not sweet. The perfect amber ale for me. If you enjoy a malty brew, you have to get your hands on a bottle or visit the brew-pub!
