A nice surprise! I think I got the last bottle at Heritage (thanks Bob for leaving one for me!). Thick black pour, just a tinge of a reddish hue, almost no head. A slight hint of cherry in the nose, dark fruit. Roasted malt and chocolate come blasting out of the gate, leaving licorice, vanilla and some dark fruit lingering in the chocolate bitter finish. Very nice!

Firkin Fest 2013. I liked this. Lots of malt in the aroma with roasted grains. Flavor has caramel and fruit, which I didn’t expect, and sugar sweetness, which I did. I did not taste the cherry but the chocolate is there. Good flavors and aromas but not a particularly good palate.

Bottle. I’m digging this. Very dark dense looking pour. Rich and roasty, mocha, licorice, slight cherry sweetness. Medium-dense palate. Very nice!

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with a thin tan head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind a tan ring and spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted chocolate, black malt and toasted mocha, a hint of molasses and light soy. Taste is full-bodied, a little oily with soft carbonation. Flavors of toasted chocolate and coffee notes, light vanilla and very, very, faint cherries. Finish is semi-dry, a little alcohol warmth with some lingering chocolate nibs and vanilla aftertaste. Nice imperial stout and a fist of the 25th anniversary series.

Bottle from Firkins. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is fairly weak but decent. Flavor is chocolate and roasted malts. Tons of flavor, but surprised its 10% abv.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2013 12 oz bottle. Thick and black with a brown head and rings of lacing. Big roasted malt aroma with notes of sweet chocolate. Pretty full body with a creamy smooth feel. Light vanilla and dark fruits behind roasted malty chocolate flavors. A little too sweet, but hides the alcohol. Pretty good overall, worth trying.

Pours dark with some translucent at the edges. No head or lacing, lightly carbonated. Nose is cocoa and some dark roast malts. Flavor follows with a sweet mid with vanilla but then nice mildly bitter finish. Cherries show up in the nose as some earthy funkiness, and in the flavor on the finish as rustic dark dried fruit flavors, but more pronounced when warm. Enjoyable and complex enough to seek out.
