This is awesome, definitely like a vanilla/cherry/cocoa dessert but not too sweet.

Sample pour of deep dark murky with a full red head. Nose is full coffee with moderate bitterness and some milkiness. Flavor is fairly bitter but opens nicely with some time. Good coffee notes and mild booze. Drinkable and enjoyable.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Imperial stouts tend to be a meal by themselves and finishing even a 12-oz bottle can be a chore. Lakefrontís Anniversary Series Imperial Stout, though, is surprisingly light. Vanilla and chocolate square off in the aroma while the cherries lurk in the background, awaiting the finish to come through. Worth drinking slowly as the cherries become more distinctive as the beer warms. The high alcohol content is nicely cloaked, and Iím glad Iím enjoying it at home and have no driving ahead. I need to find this puppy on tap before itís gone--with a designated driver, of course.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle graciously given to me by cptnspeed1...thanks Brad! - Pours black with a dark tan head. Tons of vanilla on the nose, milk sugar, coffee grounds, hazelnut, and some lightly charred malt. Cherries come through in the taste, along with more vanilla. Sweet, but fairly restrained and with a lightly charred malt to cut the sweetness. Finishes with more light cherry and milky sweetness. A bit thinner than I would have guessed, with light carbonation and some slickness. I liked this one--itís pretty mellow for an Imperial Stout, which is right up my alley, but with some interesting facets to it.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aromas of chocolate, deep (not burnt) roasted malts, vanilla. Opaque black coffee in color with a thick dark tan head. Subsides but leaves a pretty rim of foam. Flavors of coffee, a dark but creamy chocolate (probably the cocoa nibs which have a distinct flavor); hints of licorice; dry finish. Creamy, appropriately thick on the palate, slightly oily. Overall, somewhat restrained and mellow compared to others; and not wildly complex. But great viscosity, mouthfeel; nice balance, sometimes restrained is good; very accessible.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle. The above description seems inaccurate at this point. Opaque black body, creamy rusted beige head. Not much in the aroma surprisingly, pretty mellow, some cocoa. A pretty solid imperial chocolate stout, rather easy drinking, doesnít really show itís strength. Not much in hop balance, which is not a surprise for Lakefront. Big cocoa chocolate flavors, but frankly..who knows what natural flavors they added. Overall pretty enjoyable, lacks some depth..sort of like a streamlined version of a big Danish Imperial Stout.

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, grassy chocolate malt with light dark fruits. In mouth, a smooth sweet chocolate with vanilla, grassy hops, sustained bitterness, loads of alcohol warmth, nice. On tap at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 19 2012.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle, fresh. Simple nose is inky chocolate and faint dark roast, pours an inky brown-black with a short light brown head. Taste moderately sweet with a hint of gentle alcohol poking its head out, minimal hops with smooth, portery chocolate/cocoa, very light red berries/fruitiness, could be cherry juice but itís pretty faint. Silken medium body a little flat, to be honest, though that velvety smoothness is hard to achieve. Overall impression is genteel and refined, a nice change of pace of the general style, but with that comes a surprising, inoffensive ... blandness.
